What other Mexican cities have you visited?

Ensenada, Cabo San Lucas, Mazatlan, Puerto Vallarta, Cancun, and Cozumel.

Don't think I'll go back to PVR, Cancun, or Cabo again though. There are too many timeshare sales people at those 3 resorts.

I have plans to pay Morelia a visit on my next vacation. I read there is some action there. I also want to visit the town of Paracho and buy me a nice Mexican guitar.

Just got word I will be flying back to Tampico on Wednesday. Most likely to just board the ship and then get underway but probably be back for a day or so about a week later. I have a new digital camera so I will try to capture a few moments if given a chance.

My experience in Mexico City has been limited to about 20 layovers at the airport from 1 to 5 hours. That was as close as I care to get. Playa del Carmen is O.K. but I was talking about Ciudad del Carmen a totally different place in the state of Campeche. Has a population of about 90,000 and is the #1 most expensive city in Mexico after it passed Guadalajara in 2003. A 3 BR house with mediocre amenities costs around 2,500 US per month. The place has no appeal whatsoever as it is an ugly little town but being the base for the Pemex offshore oil platforms it is always busy. P4P is available but very overpriced except for some that would fail to compare with the local crack whores. Fucking taxi's are now charging 50 pesos to take you from the port to centro, about 1 kilometer.

I was in Playa del Carmen when there were no traffic lights (like 1995) Now it looks like Honolulu during rush hour.

I worked for an asian-based exporter in San Diego and been all over Mexico. Monterrey, Veracruz and Ixtapa are my favorites (in general) to visit.

For women... that's hit or miss. I like carmel skin so Mex City and Veracruz were fine for me. Some like'em white (Guad and Mty in my experiences) and others like'em super dark (think the jungles of Chiapas).

Cancun's water is awesome. I love the beaches there but Cancun is a dump full of white trash from US/Canada/Europe.

FWIW, Mexico City is worth seeing. It's interesting but it's a bit rough. Couldn't live there, expensive even by US standards; nice to visit on an expense account though! I heard it got a lot better, I was there just after NYE 2003.

That is true about it being a port city but Ciudad del Carmen has much more traffic from foreigners off of ships and they hate the foreigners there. Go figure.

Also remember Tampico is a port city were many international ships stop. So the crew members of the International ships bring business into Tampico.
I guess Foreigners are welcomed into Tampico.

What I think would make Tampico great besides my other observations is the fact that they have a fairly attractive beach similar to the one in Careforum.xxxena. By no means is it the turquoise white sand beaches of the riveria nor Destin, Fl. but, every time we passed through heading to sea it was packed with people. I did not get to check it out but certainly there should be some hotties there looking for some extra-curricular fun.

The port area is in Madero which has some good local bars with live music but if you find yourself in one of these avoid the, "Me invitas una copa" syndrome. If a girl ask you to buy her a drink tell her that you will but, in a different bar. This will tell you right away if she is trying to suck money out of you or looking for some fun. Most of these cases are ficha bars where you pay a stupid price for a drink and they give her a cut.

I walked all over the area near the Plaza de Libertad (Google Earth has a couple of neat photos of it) and ventured into several of the bars to boldly go where no white man has ever gone before. In each of these I was treated with respect and actually had a good time in every one of them. This was where I found Tampico to be very different than any Mexican city I have spent time in. Not once did I receive the cold stares that so commonly accompany the entrance of a gringo into their local watering holes. Often one of the patrons would use my presence to practice what English they knew but it was always with a good attitude and a smile. I have been into many local Mexican bars where gringos seldom go in towns such as Seybaplaya, Champoton, Sabancuy, Comalcalco, Escarcega, and many others. usually in these cases I would be with another Mexican and always would recieve the stares. Not once in Tampico did I get a display of hatred.

There are two sides to every story but I spned more time in Mexico than I do in the USA. Have been doing so since 1998 and deal with them every single day. Many of them are good people. I would rather work with them 10 to 1 than the ghetto-trailer trash, lazy ass people (of all races) that we have to work with here in the USA. I have a son there and many, many good friends who are Mexican citizens and have never left their own country.

True many foreigners (not just Americans) lack respect when they go to other countries. I used to fly to Costa Rica on my time off in the 90's. The flight was a milk run from New Orleans, with stops in Cancun, San Pedro Sula, Tegucigalpa, then San Jose. The return flight left at 3:10 p.m. then after all of the stops would arrive in Cancun around 8:30 p.m. where the plane would be completely filled with drunk loudmouth gringos, wearing their sombreros and doing an excellent job of displaying their obnoxious character. While witnessing this charade it became easy to see why they would hate us. I would never, ever go to Cancun for a vacation. I have spent some time there while in Mexico working and in between flights for other countries but never would I reccommend that shit-hole for a vacation.

Most of the people who share their attitudes have little to know knowledge of what they are saying. I thought this was about women? Anyway my opinion still stands, few over thirty remain attractive in comparision to other latin countries. Must be the tortillas?

While many Mexicans hated Americans even during the Clinton area, I would it has gotten a lot worst with the anti-immigration issues coming from the US, maybe not individually towards Americans, but just overall anti-American sentiment witnessed by the booing of Miss America, and the booing during the National Anthem during soccer matches. In general because of Bush's polices, anti-American sentiment is at a all time high in the world, it's not just Mexico.

It's true and a fact of life some Mexicans are just not going to like Gringos as they sometimes will perceive them very negatively, but I wouldn't say that's the majority of Mexicans hate Americans, I would say they want their business, however if your an American who gets ripped off in Mexico, your only going to remember the negative, and not the other times you were treated decently.

Now lets talk about the perception that many white and Asian Americans have for Mexicans, as many are so damn insulting! Off the top of my head I hear, Mexicans are all drunks, who beat their women because of machismo behavior of the Mexican men. They are all uneducated who are only capable of menial labor like picking fruit in the fields. That Mexicans commit many crimes and all the young kids are gang bangers. For the girls, they lack the ability to think long range, and are only into instant gratification, and lack the ability to reason because they lack education. They don't mine getting beat by their husbands, because that's part of their culture, They are hoes, sluts, and just plain nasty....etc etc etc. OH yes, I almost forgot " all Mexican women are the same."

You get the feeling that many Americans just simply lack respect of Mexicans to downright racist, xenophobic feelings towards them.

I was there in the Clinton era too. Certainly Bush has contributed to the hatred but again it depends where and who you encounter. The general attitude amongst many Mexican nationals is that all grinogs are rich and life in the United States is a party where everybody has plenty of money. I actually got in an argument in with a local inside of a tiny bar in a small town in Campeche. When I explained that life was very expensive in the USA he countered that it wasn't true. But they hated us during the Clinton era too.

And yes, the more South you go into Mexico, the more they hate Americans, but this came to be due to actions done by certain President of the USA.
During the Clinton era this was compleatly the other way around.

Yes but this was not in reference to any border town. I work in Mexico and can tell you that this attitude persist in many areas of the country. The border towns shouldn't even be called Mexico. They are merely an area to escape US laws. IMHO the biggest shithole in the country is Cancun, an overpriced, corporate, rip off location that competes to smear the image of humanity.

Yes ,per capita Guadalajara has the best looking chicas in Mexico. You can find alot in the smaller towns in Los Altos de Jalisco like Tepatitlan,Yahuilca,etc

Well I just got home after a month there on July 1. I have been to many Mexican cities and find this one to be the best I have seen. Also I work with about 30 Mexicans that all seem to be in agreement. Whatever floats your boat but being in Tampico almost reminded me of Colombia. Better say it's no good, we don't want a bunch of gringos going down there and fucking it up.
