My thinking on buying a couch is to get the best you can afford. This is what the clients will be lying on for an hour or more and they will want to be comfortable.

I wouldn't be without my Earthlite table now, i love it and my clients love it. They are a little more pricey but I think worth it, another firm I like are Oakworks - they are very good as well.

If you don't mind a static adjustable one then you can currently get a Master table from Costco at a very reasonable price.

Hi there

When I was doing my massage course the couches we used did not have face holes. My couch does and I have a full body massage to do next week for the first time. I don't have anything to block the hole with.

With my regular back massage client he likes to use the face hole, so that's sorted. Now when it comes to doing my full body he wont be able to lay on his back with his head in the hole, and I was wondering what the best way to go about this was. If he wants to use the face hole then obviously he is going to have to swivel round, but I wondered if this would ruin the flow or the relaxation of the massage.

Just put a small pillow or a folded towel (which you can have ready to one side) over the hole when your client turns over - it doesn't disrupt the flow, and your client would rather be comfortable than worry about 30 seconds of placing a pillow!

Hi Deb

The hole comes in handy when doing a neck massage as your hands have more room under the neck, just use a small towel folded behind the hole to rest their head on

Hi Guys

Just need some advice... at the mo i have a stadard therapy couch, its not height adjustable, i used it to do my holistic massage, but now i'm currently doing sports therapy, i need an adjustable (lower) couch, but still need a higher couch for my Reiki and Holistic.

I've been looking around, i don't have a huge budget, and i've noticed a lot of wooden framed couches.

My question is are these any good, i would prefer the metal framed ones, but the wooden ones look ok too, thought i would get some consumer advice before purchasing!

Try this - i bought my bed from here over three years ago and still looks like new

I should have done the combo package as i bought the arm rests and face cradle at a later but still very good stuff - its metal frame, back rest comes up and is height adjustable as well

I purchased onemade byTherapy 2000.

You have to balance features with weight as there are some very light couches out there but my clients have coomented that they are not too comfortable.

Mine has adjustable legs as well so I can vary the height.

I think it was called the ultimate light.

If you are not desparate I would try and visit one of the autumn beauty shows as there are usually some good offers. - mine was from stockist Dennis Williams in Bradford and was VAT and delivery free - However there are other stockists and you can contact the manufacturer direct.

Beautelle were also ther and did some beautiful couches. They were a lot more expensive though.

Hi Warlock

Just a little tip to widen your search... if you buy one that's light to carry and doesn't have wheels, you can buy one of those folding luggage trolleys. They're quite inexpensive, fold away flat and you can put the couch on there, using the elastic bungees that come with it,to carry the couch pretty much anywhere.

Anyway, you can buy a beauticians' couch through Sallys for about £120, which is very light weight, has a face hole, adjustable height legsand a back that raises, but no wheels. If you want a really good one, though,look at Darley, but you'll be paying more. Costco sell a really good one (but the back doesn't raise) which comes in a case with wheels. It's lovely, but much bulkier than a beauticians' couch, as it's wider and has thicker padding. You can buy arm extensions and a face extension for the Sally one... I think it's made by Mercia...

I wouldn't go for one with a shoulder strap, unless you're very tall and strong, they're a bit uncomfortable for any distance.

I'm with Avalon...it doesn't matter how tall or strong you are, simple logic and body mechanics tell you if you're carrying the thing more than four feet, USE A CART. Otherwise you'll be making your chiropractor very wealthy with frequent adjustments, as even the lightest tables will yank your skeleton out of alignment if you're going to drag it around more than once a week.

At first I tried a table case with the little wheels--what a joke, and it was a horror to maneuver. Then for much less I founda collapsable cart (about $90) that folds up to about two feet by 10 inches so it would fit in themedium-sized car I drove at the time, but after I bought mySUV I gota larger model cart ($180) that doesn't fold as small but featuresreally big wheels and higher sides to better secure my plushly-padded oversize table. The big wheels make it much easier to get the table up and down stairs and manage it when it's windy (which is most of the time here). It also keeps the table higher off the ground so everything stays cleaner, very helpful whenit's been raining.

Try tochoose large-sizetaxis with generous trunk space as tables take up more room than you'd imganine, and squishing and pulling to get the table and cartin and out (drivers aren't terribly gentle and probably won't be thrilled to see such an unweildy and heavy piece of 'luggage') adds greatly topremature wear and tear...
