Just to advise you that all the young ladies that worked at my place are no longer available simply because none of them like what they do, and I would like to meet one that does. I'm not talking about giving a great massage for they had no idea how to massage nor were they interested to learn....they were here solely for money. I was advised by all of them that most of the salons are operating that way and I think it's sad. Why call it a salon for massage if massage itself does not have nothing to do with it.

It is very comforting to see that you view your business that way. There clearly is a market for those folks who are looking for a really good masage to work out the kinks, mixed in with some nice sensuality and tease, slow release and not a clock watched and the way you go. Where the focus is the massage and not the upsell on options for a reasonable price (especially in these times). So massage skills are definetly very important. If you browse through the posting you will see those points as being key and that people are looking for that even at the places where there is a bunch of options. If you can provide that type of service you will have put your self into a different class from the other places and carve out your own market. I guess the problem on your side is finding people who believe like you do. The answer is maybe hiring a person who has gone to massage school so the philosophy is probably already there. Although people do like the young eye candy, I think generally that older women tend to have more experience and better massage skills. The other problem is the compensation faced with the lure of a bunch of options, so maybe it is to keep number of girls you hire low so that you can offer them a little more and they feel part of the business, and their volume would be higher as it would be split between the two of you. Anyhow that is just my two cents.

Ok, I just couldn't read this and say nothing, so here it is...

I recently visited Lavanda expecting a good massage with a finish. Marianne was available but asked if I would mind trying Christina, who hadn't had many clients that day. I asked if I could meet her first, and when I did, I thought to myself, "ok, I'll give it a shot - despite not having read anything about her".

I guess Christina is in her 20's, she is medium height, has long black hair, with kind of a mediterranean girl next door look, with a relatively full figure (not fat, just thick).

I paid Marianne for the hour, and took my position on the table and waited. A few minutes later Christina walks in, and asks what I would like. I had to clarify if she meant if I wanted soft, medium or hard massage, but finally asked for hard.

She started by pooring oil all over my body and limbs. Not a good start, as the oil was cold and sat on my body until she got to that part of me. Her massage skills were non-existed. I had asked for hard, but it was soft and annoying. I thought to myself, ok, she's just warming up, I'll give her a chance. She proceeded to massage my back lightly, then used her thumbs in a really random way on my shoulders, then she moved to my arms and legs. This all took about 10 minutes. Then she proceeded to repeat the soft, lame massage 4 time over - back, arms, legs, and again, back, arms, legs.... I kept thinking, ok, soon she'll ask for the flip, because she's done this arm 4 TIMES ALREADY!!!!

Finally, after my time was up, she said, "ok, that's it." I was dissapointed at this point, because not only was the massage no where near good enough, but there was no "flip". I did ask if something else was available, and she said no. I didn't push, so I just started getting dressed. But here's the kicker...she then proceeds to tell me I owe her $50!!!

After a few awkward moments where I explained that I had already paid Marianne for the hour (to which she said that was just for the room!), I finally ended up leaving her $20 and I told her that I think she was in the wrong business.

Now I'm just confused about this place. I obviously asked for Marianne because of what I heard about her. She recommends Christina which left me thinking negatively of Lavanda. If you're trying to be legit...then they have a long way to go (paying for the room makes it feel like an incall). And if they aren't, then I think all their girls should be prepared to offer at least a basic flip!

I feel bad for Christina who may not have known what she was getting into, but the whole thing was just weird. I don't mean to be bashing this place...I just think it hasn't found it's identity yet.

Marianne is an artiste and does a first rate job, as everyone who has seen her knows. But she also cares about seeing that her clients are pleased with the service in general. She's a professional and knows her clients want to leave feeling better than when they came in, not ripped off.

Bad client experiences mean no returns. I for one would hate to see someone of Marianne's calibre go out of business. They're just aren't many like her around anymore.

If Marianne is reading this thread, what about this: Don't hire any more eye candy 20-somethings. The odds of getting a 20-something with talent, let alone maturity and a shred of empathy for the client, are very, very low these days.

Instead, why not go after women who are 35+ years old? There are a lot of guys who aren't looking for FS or exotic extras and prefer the 35+ because they know how much more satisfying the massages given by those women usually are. The rub is better, plus they've usually got some depth to them and have something to say.

In this economy there have to be more and more of them looking for work.

Personally I'd go out of my way to come to Lavanda if Marianne carved out that 35+ market niche. The last thing I want is to risk having to settle for a cute, incompetent, money hungry 20-something with an emotional age of 14.

No, I did not tell Marianne my experience, but I'm sure she reads this board.

What made it such a bad experience was that it was neither here nor there. Meaning, the massage was crap AND there was no finish.

I can understand the massage being crap if the girl is focused on the extras, or if there was a top notch massage with no extras, then fine. But to lack both, and then ask for $50 on top of the hourly rate is just rediculous.

If Marianne is reading this, I'd like to know what the deal is? Is it a no extra place with the focus on great massages, or can we expect at least a finish with every girl regardless of age or "eye-candy" factor? Just make it clear for the customers, so nobody wastes anyones time please.

35+ may be a bit too much. Those advertising to be 26+ will put them in the late 20 to early 30 age range.

Definitely stay away from the 18-22 YO. They haven't developed any skills yet and they are driven only by money.
