feeling crummy sometimes these days

Hey all energyworkers.......(esp. Talenyn)

I have been a practicing Reiki Master for awhile now,but lately I have been becoming quite depressed for no apparent cause or reason. I am always grounded both before and after my sessions,use my Protection symbol several times during the session,and I always disconnect energetically and clear my space post-session. I think my depression may be related to my 17-year old niece's death from an anuerysm on 4/25/03,over 4 yearsago. I felt I never felt like I had enough time to say goodbye,and may be harboring guilt. My sister did have another daughter,who will be 8 months old on July 24. I notice sometimes after spending time with her, I can become depressed within hours of her leaving me. Is it possible I am taking in some of her deceased sister's past life energy and she is communicating something to me or is something else going on....help :yikes: I am going :banghead:

First, my condolences for your loss.

Is this your first experience with loss in the family? If not, is this a very different experience? When people close to us leave, isn't depression pretty common, especially if we don't feel like we had time to say goodbye?

I'm just wondering how much of this is a normal response that anyone would have in your situation.

It is possible for you to be taking on and processing not only your own grief, but your sister's or your other niece's. Having good boundaries in session with clients is one thing; family is another! When people are close to us, and/or we're surprised (as it sounds like you were by your niece's passing), things have a way of sneaking in "under the radar" so to speak.

If it were me in your shoes, I'd be seeing a good counselor or hypnotherapist to deal with the natural grieving process and a good energy worker to clear my family's stuff out of my space.

I'm so sorry to hear about your niece and her sudden passing. I don't know much about holdover past-life energy, but I do know it's normal for depression to manifest after a traumatic loss. And it is normal to feel sad and depressed when the still-living loved ones leave your sight. Are you able to get bodywork and reiki these days? And grief counseling can really help too.

It just seems so hard when people die young. My husband's best friend passed when our son was just 9 days old, at a very young age, and it still hits us unexpectedly. It will get better, but I know it totally sucks.

I am very sorry for the loss of your niece. I am not yet an energy worker so I cannot comment on the processes in your sessions. I have, unfortunately, had my share of loss of loved ones. One thing that I notice is that I can tend to become very sad when an "anniversary" date of a passed loved one approaches even though I am not consciously aware that the date is near. It may be a birthday, date of passing or some other date of significance. Once I make the connection - which I don't always do - the sadness begins to lessen.
Losing a loved one is hard enough. Losing a young person unexpectedly - unfathomable.

Like peace4all, I've had a lot of loss too. Including my niece Jill who died from an aneurysm on October 4, 2005 at the age of 35. (This just less than 18 mo. after losing my mother.)
Like peace4all, I admit that in the 3 years since I lost my Mom I will sometimes find myself depressed and it is often around an anniversary as well. I know for a fact that I tend to be quite mopey between my Mom's DOB, March 22nd and her DOD April 6th.
And even though my family used to love to get together and look at photo albums & go through old photographs... my sister and I were just saying this afternoon that we find it too painful to have photos of the loved ones we've lost displayed around the house.
But perhaps you feel differently... maybe you need to do something to acknowledge that you still feel her loss. What did your niece like to do?
Did she like to read? Can you donate some books to the library in her name? Or plant a special tree or create a garden in remembrance of her?
But most of all, talk to others & share your memories of her. Because through your memories she lives on, in the lives of others. t056

I always loved hearing my niece sing.....she loved to sing....at dinner,at the grocery store....at school.....around the house. I will always keep her memory with me--when I feel low, I listen to one of her favorite singers,Mary J. Blige,and think of her. I think I will buy a tree of some sort and plant it in a nice spot in my yard--that sounds like a wonderful idea! I know things will get better as time goes on and it won't hurt as much. I am content as I know she is up in Heaven,singing a song just for me

Dealing with a sudden loss is always difficult. I lost my mother in law 6 years ago now, and I still feel saddened and guilty by her loss (long story).

Feeling depressed after seeing your neice is understandable as you think of all the things that could have been, especially that she'll never know her sister that passed, even if you are not actively thinking these things.

Have you thought of creating a scrapbook of happy memories? All the cherished times and things that you loved about her? Include lyrics to songs she like, momentos, cards she may have given you, whatever you feel is most appropriate. It would be something to lift your spirits when you miss her the most, and help you bring out the happy joy of her life, rather than focusing on the loss. It would also be a beautiful thing to share. You could even make high quality copies for the family.

You'll always miss her, and there will be times that you feel her loss more than others. Like the others have said, even if you are not conciously aware of anniversary dates, you'll often feel more saddened as those dates draw near.

Make sure you take care of yourself during these times, and realize that you have just as much right to grieve as her parents.

First of all, I am so sorry for the loss. Any loss of a family member is tough no matter who they are.

As far as it being past life type energy anything is possible but I think it is more that your mind is processing the loss more now then it might have in the beginning. I am a big believer in past lives, and she may be trying to communicate with you via your other neice. Ask your guide (s) to help you out on this one. I know I call on my guide a lot if I get into a sticky spot like that and he helps me a lot. Also, if you can maybe go to her burial site and just listen to the energy around you and your guide(s) as that place may be just where you need to be. If you cannot do that then just continue to ground and I am sure things will work out for you in this situation. *Reiki Blessings and Light your way*
