...motherhood as a career choice ? I'm not completely heartless and yes anyone can make a mistake but I can't understand why in this country we reward people for making the same mistake over an over again .

My suggestion is that there should be no increase in benefits for having more than one child and in fact having a second child that you can not support financially should be made a criminal offence with a mandatory sentence of sterilisation .

If someone is too stupid to use contraception then surely they are too stupid to be a parent .
Punk Rock ; It is the woman that is left with the baby so it is up to her to ensure controception is used and even if there's a mistake abortion is free .

I would agree though that men who go around making woman after woman pregnant should be sterilised too .

The UK already has too much control over people's private lives, so criminalizing something that is none of your business is not the right thing to do, but reducing welfare benefits is common sense, in fact, I don't think women should get any money for any children at all.

i agree, but i think if you cannot afford children then you do not have them and take the precautions to ensure this. All that is happening is these scum are breeding more children that will no doubt tread the same path as their intellectually stunted parent. In some of these areas you have grandmothers who are 30 and great grandmothers in the mid 40's.

Again i believe we have too much freedom in this nation. Things need to change and the way this would be done would be harsh in the short term but will stop the problems in the future.

Care and support should be given to the natives first, i don't understand how economic migrant women allow themselves to get pregnant. The idiocy of it going to a foreign country and getting pregnant. Romanian gypsies are just baby making machines. I'm sick of seeing locals heavily pregnant pushing a double pram and all this by the age of 20 but economic migrants should be dissuaded from having kids at all. increased benefits? Are all brits on welfare? MY wife stays at home and takes care of the house and our children. I get on "benefit" other than to pay $25K per year in taxes so that liberal crack head "housewives" (with no husband) can sit around smoking crack and drinking liquor they bought by selling their kids food stamps while they get ready to have their 12th child form the 9th different man.

You fail to take into account the fact that unless you are a millionaire most people struggle to afford to have children.

I have 2, obviously I was married to their Father but when he became a work shy layabout I had to fend for myself and my kids.

I work full time, look after them best I can. What we lack in money we make up for in love and not being rich doesn't prevent me from raising them with values and morals.

But can I afford them? Hell No!! Should I be sterilised? Hell no!!

I wouldn't have another one anyway for that reason but if I chose to, I would bear that responsibility myself, as I have already done twice.

In this country you have a legal financial responsibility for any children you have until they are 16. Therefore, it is my opinion that if you have a child, if you are on benefits you obviously cannot fill this obligation without having to claim extra money from the taxpayer, and should have your child removed and taken into care, or given into the care of another family member who can afford to look after it.
Perhaps that way people wouldn't have a child just to get a better council flat or more benefits. Did you hear that guy who runs Asda saying about how they find baby's nappies and food and stuff dumped in the booze aisle, as people decide they'd rather spend their money on drink than on their kids? We have some serious problems in this country, and sorting out the benefits system so that it doesn't encourage people to have kids they can't support (who are more likely to then themselves go on to live on benefits all their lives) would be a good step in the right direction.

The object of the exercise is to end child poverty. Benefits are given to anyone looking after a child whether they do so as a couple, a single teenager, a foster carer or whatever. There has been talk of bringing back residential homes for single mothers who cannot support their children - but I'm sure it will all be quietly forgotten after the next election (and when they've worked out the cost).

The taxpayer in this country shells out enough for those who genuinely need help - to then have to dig even deeper for those who see it as a career option is an insult to intelligence.

Benefit payments next year will account for 1/3rd of public spending, that's around £193 billion. Then the rest of us wonder why the country's skint and the Government will need to borrow £200 billion to make ends meet next year alone.

I can't see how legislation will stop pregnancy, however, if NO benefits at all were available for the first child, it might make a lot of youngsters think twice about the possible consequences. If you can't afford kids, don''t have them until you can. I am sick and tired of my taxes being used to pay for children being produced by children.
