I enjoy both the giving and the receiving. I appreciate it when my fellow student has taken the time to study what we are going to practice in class and adds their own flair or strokes to even out the clinical progression. I am less appreciative of the times when we are learning something and the student does the stroke a few times then backs away and waits for instruction for the next thing to practice. It tends to feel stilted and disconnected. Many of the students in my class, thankfully, really want to do their best to learn and will often ask the teacher for additional guidance or comparative touch. In that regard as a receiver I feel like I am giving back by giving positive feedback on what they are doing great and what may need to be tweaked. As a giver, I review the material beforehand and study the OIA's so that I'm not fumbling around too much. I also ask for alot of feedback on what they are feeling/experiencing and what I am feeling in their body. Also, I figure if I'm paying the big $$ to go to school I better utilize the resources of the teacher as much as I possibly can. What I've found is that when I've done the prework, the teacher will show some additional techniques to make my practice even better.
