I too think suggestions are great--and give plenty of them. However, I'm not keen on guys telling other guys how to spend their money. Or how to monger.

The thing about giving quarters so guys can tip less than a buck is a nice idea. Although I too don't like mesero who try "tricking me" into giving a tip.

Many people in the service industry really depend on their tips. So I don't mind tiping the bathroom guy or towel guy if they do their job reasonably well. (Which doesn't mean an early knock is OK).

You guys are aware that you are the customer, and that this position puts you in charge of you experience. If you have an issue with how your change comes back, tell the messero how you want it. If you have a chica at your table and don't want to be ficha fucked tell him to keep an eye on you from a distance and that you will signal when you want him to get her another. Tell him that if he can follow your instructions you will keep him as your only messero, and that if he can't you will make sure not to use him at all. If he does what you ask, keep your end of the deal and when the others come by tell them that so and so is your messero. You have the cash, you're in charge. Act like it without being an asshole.

And for those of you that feel the need to squeeze every peso out of each nickle you scrape together for your trip south, tell the messero that you are a cheap fuck, and don't tip, but expect first rate top quality service. It will make a difference.

I agree that breaking down the change so the client can tip less is a good idea, but don't you agree the quarters should be on TOP of the bills in the tray and not hidden underneath? I think this is not necessarily done with client service in mind.

The towel boy gets no salary so a tip is a nice gesture...I'm guessing he can probably work harder in most cases, but not sure anyone really wants to critique his work and decide whether or not he earns it. Yes the chicas kick down to him as well, and especially if he knocks early....I always tell guys that complain about the early knock to take it up with their chica before going into the room...she controls the knock.....same if she is drinking water from a beer bottle, she controls what she drinks as well.

I worked in restaurants for 20 years, and breaking down the smallest bill so that you don't force the customer to tip $1, when that would be 20% - 50%, is good service.

This is not a scam in any way, and your advice is out of line.

When the meseros bring me my change spread out on the tray, I leave them $2 for me and a ficha, $1 for just me.

Brits and most Europeans come from a different culture wrt Tipping, and are known throughout the USA in the restaurant business as very poor tippers. They will tip 10% on the pre-tax total, at best.

I used to manage restaurants for 2 decades and this was and will always be a sore spot with waiters, waitresses and bartenders in the USA wrt Foreign Customers. They tip poorly, this is widely known, and it is common knowledge in the USA.

FB, ditto here about that damn SOB of attendant at Adelitas, he is like downright rude I noticed with most folks demanding tips, the first time I ran into him, I just shrugged him off and next time I litterally told him to piss off. Other than him, the other guys at Chavelas, Miami and Tropical are non intruisive guys. Some of the HK staff can be like the Adelitas one

How other guys spend their hard earned money is none of your business. Stop whining that over-tipping is raising the bars for other guys. Remember, mongering is not cheap and if you can't afford it, stay out of it. However, I am not saying that overpaying is good. No, it's stupid. Just use common sense. If you've been to TJ several times, then you kind of have an idea how much you should pay for SG, BG, shoeshine boy, towel boy, waiters, dancers at the strip joints, etc, etc.. By some accounts, 30 million mexicans live on 5 dollars a day. I don't feel sorry for waiters if they got 50 cents tip instead of $1. I don't feel sympathy for SG's and BG's because they are making way more than average mexicans. Hell, the way some of these hot chicas go up and down the stairs, they may be making more money than some of us.

I will tip the waiters if I get good service and like to stay with one waiter through the night. They will remember me the next day. I usually tip a dollar each order unless I buy a round then I might tip more. What I hate is when they come by and want me to buy drinks before I or the chica are finished with the one we've got. They figure it out really fast that when I want another drink I will call them over.

I will negotiate the chica price, if I get good service I will tip. I also repeat if I get good service. A no knock is the only way I will tip the cum boy.

Restroom boy, I will tip, not every time, usually the first time of the evening.

Well that's the problem with CC, there is never any TP, as you have to ask for it, and then tip the guy when you get it.

But you may be right Sampson, as bathrooms without somebody taking care of them can be very gross, and depending where you visit it's sometimes advisable carrying your own TP.

i still remember going to a bus depot in Guadalajara and becoming grossed out over the condition of the toilets, and many women will refuse to sit on toilet, and just squat to do their thing.

Well obviously the bathroom attendent serves a purpose. Someone has to claim it and since he does not earn a salary, he works off tips and creates his own store. I say more power to him.

I always take one of those small containers of clear antibacteria liquid with me. That way I don't have to use the sink/towels to wash up. Also good to clean up your stinky fingers, after sinking them inside a chica half the day, while she sits on your lap in the bar.

Wow one dollar to the bathroom attendant Dr Choi? Well I can't criticize that, as your heart is in the right place. I don't think it will add to TJ zona inflation because I think very few guys tip that high? I myself usually only leave my loose change, between a quarter and fifty cents, not every time either if I'm staying in the same bar, because I tend to go a lot when I drink.

One time I had the runs, as I ate something bad in the states, so I ran into the bathroom at the Chicago club, and of course they don't have toilet paper in the stalls , so I ask the bathroom attendant, for toilet paper, while I was biting my lips not to go right there in my pants!

I was so relieved when done, I tip the guy about 40 cents, and he has this sad look on his face, finally he tells me it's a $1 dollar for the toilet paper, so I just shake my head, and take out a dollar and give him that too, wondering if their is any place sacred where someone won't try to rip you off?.( I'm not one to argue over a tip or a measly dollar unless I just don't like them too)

The only bathroom attendant I won't tip is the asshole who works at Adelitas., because a couple of times I brought Viagra from him, and he demanded a $ 2 dollar tip too!

I wish the TJ bars would do away with those bathroom guys, because it adds to the unhygienic practice of not washing your hands. Because so many guys believe you have to leave a tip to get a paper towel to dry your hands after taking a piss, most guy just go in bathroom, take a piss and just walk out! Then later they have their hands all over the chicas! In the states most guys wash their hands, maybe at least 80% but in TJ with those attendants I bet it drops to maybe 20% who wash their hands? ( washing your hands is one of the best ways to help you from not getting sick)
