Madame Cleos and Blue Pearl: Toronto's and Vancouver's huge losses

What a sad time for Massage in Canada.

Toronto loses Blue Pearl after Vancouver lost Madame Cleos last year.

The issue revolving around Madame Cleos is Vancouver City won't grant leasing for Rebecca in a new location downtown. Not sure why but I guess it's because she didn't pay rent for 18 months.

I had one session at Blue Pearl. Not memorable and I've heard further negative reviews. But I still wanted to see Tiffany.

Is there some sort of hidden agenda against high quality studios in Canada's big cities?

Edmonton is so much more laid back and conservative.

I think you are taking a couple of exception (and different) cases and attempting to show that there is something happening that just isn't there.

Vancouver's massage scene is a disgusting mess of bordellos and outright whore houses masquarading as massage places, and not much more. I think that any sane landlord would have a very hard time justifying leasing to that sort of establishment, especially when they are likely to draw LE attention. if she wasn't paying the rent where she was, no doubt they would have no interest in renewing her or renting her a new location. 18 months behind on rent pretty much makes you a deadbeat.

For Blue Pearl, the answer is "who knows?". No idea why they closed, anyone have any actual information?

I don't think there is a hidden agenda against anything, except perhaps people who don't pay the rent. At that point, f--k them, they are deadbeats, no?

I must say I enjoy the situation that I saw in Edmonton at the Massage Parlours.

The door closes in the room behind the MPA and it's a whole new world!

For 2 browns and 1-2 greens you have an excellent hour of fun/frolicking memories.

People move on, places change, and life goes on....... (sorry, had to be a little philosophical)

But Sal did very well for himself. BP was a cash cow back in the days. If BP is done for good, I probably see Sal moving to the French Riviera.

I drove past Blue Pearl today and saw a sign on it that said "Closed for Renovations, New Management." not sure if this is new or not as I rarely drive in that area of the city.

The situation in Vancouver with Madame Cleos was so dire it ended up in BC Supreme Court.

Question: Would the City of Vancouver, having known Cleo's owner didn't pay rent for 18 months and was $ 51,000 in arrears, be reluctant to give such an owner a relocation lease / new license knowing she ended up in court over non payment of rent at the previous location where she was forcibly evicted?

Would the City of Toronto be just as reluctant to reissue a lease / license to such an owner?

Many would argue with this assessment and feel quite the opposite that it's a HUGE win for the the massage industry, the clients and especially the girls who worked there.

Although BP was the crown jewel when it first opened, its been a 6+ year steady decline into mediocrity and beyond. Not one cent was put into the facility, it became old, dirty, broken down and unsanitary. The independent contractor pricing philosophy let each girl charge whatever she thought she could get in the rooms, and that's not even considering all the off-menu shenanigans that could be negotiated. It had become a thinly disguised brothel which put pressure on girls in other spas who maybe weren't quite as liberal with their services.

And then there's the *sniff sniff* nose candy issues.... talk to a few of the girls who used to work there. Far too many of them emerged with problems, habits, addictions and other unbargained for side effects from working at BP. Sure, they had a choice, but the whole environment was poisonous.

If that assessment of the business is accurate, then I'd argue that the demise of BP did everyone a huge favor, except maybe Sal.
