Do what makes you comfortable. I always shave because it looks and feels cleaner to me. When you are well-groomed, it also suggests that you take care of yourself, which is attractive. Considering it's your first time, being outside almost paves the way for a potentially awkward situation. Just be aware of your surroundings... The last thing you want is to realize you are sitting in an ant pile or the neighbors are watching. As I said before, try and do what makes you feel comfortable. Obviously standing would be kind of awkward. You should be relaxed, so I would try to comfortably sit or lie down.
