La Mansion would probably get a 4 or 5 star rating in a AAA guide. (Not a bad deal for $35.00.) Room service is available. It is set up like a gated community of two story town houses. The hotel desk is in the guard shack. Most rooms are above a garage with a closeable garage door. (It was designed for married "big wigs" to visit in privacy with their girl friends.)
La Mansion also has jacuzzi suites. They cost more; around $60.00 if memory serves. They always enforce the short term limit on jacuzzi suites.
When things are slow at La Mansion--most days during the week--for a higher price ($60.00?) you can get a room for the night with in and out privledges. Before I had an apartment in TJ, I would often get a room, head for ZN, and return with a chica for an all night session. When leaving you lock the room. To re-enter your room go to the desk and have them send somebody to open the room. I'd consider it relative safe to leave things in their rooms. (Of course, I don't suggest leaving an expesive camera, computer, etc. in any hotel anywhere.)
One thing about La Mansion is they use the "European system" of requiring you to leave an ID at the hotel desk. You get it back after they inspect your room for damage when you leave. I've never heard of any cases of blackmail or other problems--and I know a lot of guys who've been there. If you enter in your car they record you license plate number instead of asking for ID. m (Those not wanting to leave an ID might want to consider using El Parador.)
If you check into La Mansion for the night don't be surprised if you get a call form the desk asking if you want a girl. They have connections with a number of girls (some I've recognized as working at Chicago Club) who will come to the room. Prices vary greatly according to your negociating skills.
The Via Rapida and Paseo de los Hereos come together near Fiesta Inn, with La Mansion being on the Via Rapida side.
You should be able to get there from the border in a yellow cab for $5.00. (Some charge more.) If La Mansion calls a yellow cab for you expect to pay $7.00 to return to the border. Rate to and from the Zona are the same. It's about 10 minutes from either the border or the Zona to La Mansion.
An easy way of getting a return cab is: exit La Mansion and turn right. Enter the parking lot of Fiesta Inn. The cabs there will usually take you to the border for $5.00. Or stand on the street (Paseo de los Hereos) and hail a taxi libre.
