Friend has 2 dogs they have never been introduced what is the best way to do it?

My friend owns 2 dogs. One is a 5 year old beagle who has been chained in her backyard since he was 8 months old. The other an aprox 8 month old beagle/boxer mix. She was spayed a week ago.

My friend just moved and has the puppy living indoors walking her out front and the beagle loose in the backyard. The puppy was not very happy when she saw the other dog out of the back door.

The 2 dogs have never interacted other than seeing each other while the puppy was being walked in the backyard.

What is the best way to introduce the 2 of them? She moved the puppy to the new house 1st and 2 days later moved the beagle. The beagle has not really been on a leash in 5 years so I dont know whether to leash him, the puppy or both and how exactly to go about this.

Oh and should we wait another week to make 2 weeks since the puppy was spayed to minimize any injury to her? Is 2 weeks a good span or longer?

ADD: I have owned dogs my whole life and currently own 3 but I normally introduce a puppy to an adult. I have only once introduced an adult to adult and that was a stray dog that had already introduced herself to my pom

Instead of trying to introduce the 2 of them, give the beagle up to someone who will take care of him. Chaining a dog in the back yard for 5 years is just cruel to the dog.


But to answer your question, the dogs should have been brought to the new house at the same time, not days apart. This way, the puppy has already established the new place as her "turf".

Best way is to take both dog off the property, to a park that is neutral grounds, and with both on leash, allow them to sniff each other and get used to each other on neutral ground. Then bring them both home together, and allow them to play together at the house, under close supervision.

i have a bunch of dogs some puppies some old dogs and the best way of doing it is to just let them loose in the yard. They will fight let them intervean if it gets to bad but other than that let them fight it out one will come out on top and be the head dog and the other will accept it i know its scary to watch dogs fight but theres no other way. but if you dont want to do that...........try letin them out in the yard for an hour a day then separate them idk about that method though try the first one first

put both of them on a leash. have another person help you. let them meet, and if either dog shows any kinds of aggressive behavior then separate them, if they dont just give them some time to adapt to each other.
