One of the things I learned early by a very popular, Social Psychologist that taught Psychology where I went to college, and was even popular with the media was that you NEVER JUSTIFY to someone if at all possible, because once you do you give them power over you, and you put them in the drivers seat.

You never see a employee demanding why there boss is late, but you always see it the other way around. And if it's that kind of relationship or something with a wife, you have to give them something, but it those cases... it's better if you tell them you have no excuse, as mistakes happen and get on with your life.

But if it's a situation with an equal, you never give them the time of day, when they come asking: why did you do it this way? or that way? or why didn't you do it? The correct answer is ' I don't justify myself to you, or a variation of that. Sometimes I'll even acknowledge their feelings, but still won't justify myself to them. Now you don't do that to everybody like a well respected co-worker, and you actually fucked up. I'm just talking about people who are trying to put a power play over you, or even a online troll or worst a wife or girlfriend.

I have used this with great success at work and even used it on another forum where some idiot monger was trying to get me to justify what I wrote to him. But I didn't take his bait, and simple told him I thought he was an idiot in so many words, and I'm not going to waste my time explaining myself
to the likes of him. A lot of times they really don't know what do to when you put it like that to them...they go into shock, and takes them awhile to react, but then sometimes it just pisses them off more, and they really don't leave you alone until they can show they got power over you.

I'd say the San Diego Tribune is worth reading when you are taking a shit and have nothing else to read, and it's good to take the Tribune with you to Mexico because a lot of times the public bathrooms don't have toilet paper, and so you can always whip out the newspaper.

So yes the the San Diego Union-Tribune has a few good uses including wiping your ass with.

Where did you get the idea that the San Diego Union-Tribune and its companion website, signonsandiego.com, are responsible in reporting the news? They aren't quite as bad as the local television news stations in regard to sensationalizing the problems in Tijuana, but they are very, very close. Witness the recent refusal to use the term the researchers asked them to use, "sex workers", instead of the pejorative term the Union-Tribune demanded to use, "hookers." For that reason, the researchers now refuse to be interviewed by the Union-Tribune.

I read "signsOnSanDiego" too and they do provide some accurate information from time to time. But the thing about the San Diego Tribune is that in a sea on liberal media newspapers, that the San Diego paper is the "Fox news" of the print world. The San Diego paper is a very conservative newspaper written for conservative people living in rich San Diego.( not all of San Diego is rich, but a lot of places are extremely rich)

So this paper has a right leaning bias, and like other right-wing rags, they tend to sensationalized the hell out of the news, especially about places like Tijuana.


For example that PHD doing the sex study that I talked about in another thread, told me she wanted the paper to use "sex worker" in the headline about their TJ prostitution study but the paper refused, saying using sex worker, will legitimize prostitution, so we won't change the wording, and they went ahead and used "hooker" in the story. They also took things out of context....pissing off the people that did the first study.

When Jorge Hank was mayor there were a lot of problems with the police. Under his successor, Jorge Ramos, the problems have mostly disappeared. The raids/sweeps aren't conducted for the purpose of shaking down mongers, although that could happen if one has the bad luck to encounter a holdover, "old school" cop.

Corrupt cops are less likely to steal from and/or hassle somebody they know can report them to Sindicatura. Mongers who appears scared and inexperienced are also more likely to have problems than those who project confidence and a "man of the world" demeanor.

A "vet" will hold his wallet in one hand and "pocket money" in the other. He will also read the name eforum.xxx of the officer searching him, look the officer in the eye, and address him by name. Example: Que busca Sr. Gonzalez?

I haven't had many problems with the police in TJ; and none recently. On the few occasions that I've had police contact I've been firm but polite. Mexico has--on the books--laws similar to those in the US requiring the police to have probably cause to search/detain somebody. After quoting them the law I ask them--politely but firmly--to state the reason they're searching/stopping me. At that point they've usually sent me on my way.

The very common sweeps...sometimes multiple sweeps in a week are designed to keep the riff raff out of the Zona and make if more friendly and less dangerous. Now the raids like the one I wrote about is a complete different animal. It is hard to follow why the really do it.

Their stance is it is immigration related, however not too many people are buying into that. It appears that they have some type of hard on for the Brizuella's as they sure do fuck with their bars and hotels. Of the two raids there has been many reports of money stolen from chicas, a manager of Hotel Cascadas being roughed up(and money stolen from the hotel), and then the law enforcement seems to just do a general check of the other bars. Certainly their is a bigger concentration of activity in the bars and hotels owned by the Brizuella's.

Now in another raid, not the most recent, there was a lot of talk about Cascadas and Hong Kong Bar harboring a fugitive, and that is why management said they were roughed up and singled out. It is no secret that they have Cartel connections, but it is not clear that they were in fact harboring this fugitive as no capture was made or announced. Some feel that the police stole from people associated with that group to send a message that their behavior and actions are not being tolerated....as if give him up or their will be more raids.

Anyway as long as we, the visitors of the Zona Norte, are not doing anything wrong and comply with their wanting to search you, we should not be the victims here. The one American arrested in the last raid, was in fact carrying a weapon(knife). What I recommend and what I always do when searched is take my money out of my pocket...show it to the officer(s) and hold it while they search. This way they have no opportunity to steal your money.
