I confess I've not read this thread, I'm posting only to comment on the choice of the word "insurrection" in the title.

To believe this was an insurrection and label it as such requires unquestioning acceptance of what is being reported in the media. I don't think reading Trump's actual statement could bring you to that conclusion. Did Trump say untrue things and use irresponsible language for a leader? Yes of course he did. Could his language have egged on the wilder supporters to break the law? Yes. But did he tell anyone to storm the Capitol building and use force? Not to my knowledge. This morning I read the full transcript of his statements to the crowd which had gathered to protest. A full transcript (btw) has not been readily shared by most legacy media and the video of his speech was actually banned on Twitter and Facebook. Think about that...and the fact that the majority is ok with it. Astonishing.

If you maintain Trump broke the law here, please explain why and how. As well, be prepared to explain why we should not apply the same judgment to the scores of Dem politicians who over the last year have encouraged and supported the BLM and Antifa protests that have caused so much damage and injury.

Rudy Giuliani called for trial by combat. Donald Trump Jr talked of zeros and heroes in congress. Trump used the word "fight" nineteen times, lied about winning a landslide election and then pointed the ginned up crowd at the Capitol building. All of them used aggressive, inciting language. Their are numerous videos of the crowd interpreting the messages as calls to storm the Capitol Building.


I believe in justice, not taking sides. For me power comes with responsibility - the more power you have, the more responsibility you have. If you "yell fire in a crowded theatre", then you are responsible for the ensuing chaos, especially if you are a powerful and influential leader. If the Dems have incited riots or given their tacit approval to illegal acts then let them stand trial. If you have doubts about Trump's complicity then let him and his cohorts stand trial and make their cases. Five people died, many were injured, and the faith in democracy was shaken. There must be justice. It is the opinion of many that the riot was the inevitable result of a gullible and disenfranchised part of the US that have been lied to and manipulated for years, not just the words of incitement spoken that day. To be fair it is not just Trump and the Republicans that are at fault, but also right wing extremists (who have always been there). I really do not think you, Trump, and his supporters can successfully apply nuance and weasel words to absolve Trump and his cohorts. If you want to take the stand that we are in a moment of shock and a little time is needed for justice to be applied fairly, then I would agree with you. But in the meantime the president should be prevented from making and major moves until his time in office is over.

Yes right! Bring on justice and apply it fairly to all. If the Dems have culpability let them face the consequences. Bring it on. Keep in mind the BLM movement is about social justice, and the MAGA movement is only about Trump. I have no loyalty to party, country comes first. The whole system needs a house cleaning. Too many want the privilege of power and not the responsibility. And they need to get money out of politics, it is way too corrupting. Raising money not only skews political positions, but it takes so much of politician's time and energy that they cannot possibly do the best job for their country.
