Cops mugging mongers at the border

i was there last night(2/19/07) as well but when i got dropped of the taxi their was 3 TJ cops standing there but they did not stop us.

I didn't see any platas at the bridge last night, but Saturday night a few of my buddies had to do the "stare straight and ignore them" trick (this seems to be working pretty well). The cops gave up after three "HEY AMIGO!"s.

Mr Dollar man, thats a good point you made, Unfortunately most of us are "fly by night" operators, and do not have business/govt connections, but if we do that would help of course. Its the same in most third world countries.

Never been in TJ spend all my time on the gulf of mexico. obviously the whole scene is different in TJ, but corruption, lovingly is the same throughout.

It was on one occasion where I left my favorite naked women club and was shaken down. As you well know there are the Federales, Policia, Transito and some kind of civil patrol (people with badges and a toyota truck with orange flashing lights). anyways they were telling me that i was drunk and was gonna get taken in unless someone paid up.

As i conduct business matamoros, i decided to be pleasant about it and do some name dropping (this person from this agency, or that person from the ministry of this or that). if it didnt work i would pay my way out. I guess one name stuck and they said that i should be careful and let me go.

i am not saying this works everytime, but if you conduct business in the town and have to deal with government people, their names come in handy. Yep these flunkies love getting some free money, but they also wanna keep their job and try an easier mark. Who knows who this gringo knows...

Fireballs, I think you put it correctly. I agree with Sampson also. If one has the time and living in TJ, then definitely standing up to he cops is the thing to do. But as most of us, have to return back and have some kind of deadline, we cant afford to mess with the cops. Having said that , my personal take is to be polite and firm, if one has nothing to hide then it should be ok for most part. I wish I was like Sampson living in TJ, I would be singing a different tune

The way I see it is the tj cops should be treated just like cops
in the US. I will comply with their orders, but I will also not
tolerate them trying to take advaneforum.xxxe of me. I never curse
at any cops, but I will yell at them if they try to extort money
from me. Guys practice your track running skills, the cops in
tj are armed with slingshots, all you have to do is outrun them.

I too understand Fireballs' logic. But I also understand Sampson's logic. IMHO if everybody would "stand firm" IMHO the cops would leave mongers alone. (My personal experience is they let you go when you politely but firmly stand up to them--which is something different than telling them "f u.")

Hey if your single or have a wife that knows what you do, have free time, or live in Tijuana like Sampson, then knock yourselves off, standing up to corrupt cops in Tijuana.

But the way I see it, I'm not in Tijuana to teach the cops a LESSON, besides I'm rarely harassed by the TJ Cops, and I'm not to put myself out there, so I can make it better then the rest of the American mongers, who most likely piss in their pants and give the TJ Cops whatever they want, despite what you read on boards like this.

To me the and I'm sure other mongers are in the same boat. The most important things for me is to get back into the states because I have a job to go to, and I don't want my wife to find out about my mongering habits. I know of one monger who almost got FIRED from his job because he was a
'no-call, no show' for work the next day because he was in a TJ Jail, because he told a TJ COP FUCK YOU, I'm not going to pay you shit! Under no circumstance will I risk having to call my wife, "honey, I'm not coming home tonight, because I'm in a Tijuana Jail, accused of drug possession, because I didn't want to give the cop $40 dollars.

Damn right, those cops can intimidate you. I been in the back seat while 3 cops with guns taking me on a tour of the city, waiting for me to make them an offer. Fuck that, I don't want a tour of the city for an hour,' Here is $40 dollars, now can you leave me off back in the zona?

In the future, you will find it is much less expensive to ask to see the judge. To date I do not know of one person that has been to see the judge and the police just let you go...call their bluff.

My last visit to Tijuana was on the last week of Dec 06. Before walking to the red district I purchased some Viagra from a local pharmacy. I decided to save the pill for later that night. After I finished banging a chick my friend and I decided to take a walk as we were walking into the street (the street runs parallel to caihuila) I spotted 3 or 4 cops. As we were passing them they told us to stop to frisk us. . We were told to take everything from our pockets (of course I did not take the pill out.) Then they frisked and without a surprise they found my pill. They asked what was I doing with the pill and I said I was gona use it to make the anaconda hard like a rock. Then the cop asked me if I had a prescription which I said "no." He immediately said that I had to go to jail and then see a judge. I was shock and I told him I would give him some money. I had in my pocket about 200 $. I pulled 2 20's$ out I handed one to each other the cops. . The "main cop" turned away as I showed them the money. They were looking at each other to see if they both unanimously agree on the bribe. They accepted it and I was let go.

I dont think they would be shooting unless they wanted a big incident to take place. But If they did confront you, you can stand your ground, be polite and firm if you have nothing to hide or even otherwise. .

Barabus, it's not that far I'm sure you could make it, especially since the TJ Cops aren't carrying any guns.{ I'm not sure if they got their guns back or not yet?}

But you have to be careful regarding the US Border Patrol, as it's my understanding they shoot people in the back trying to run away from them. I don't know what they would do to you if your were running towards them?

Note: I was in Tijuana last Sunday, and the previous Monday, and both times I didn't see any TJ Cops at the drop off point on the way back to the states. In fact I only saw a few TJ Cops, and didn't see them at all cruising in their 'Patrol Cars' so maybe now is a good time to visit Tijuana for those scared of TJ Cop shakedowns.

Me and a buddy got out of the taxi at approx 12:00midnight Sunday night/Monday morning at the bridge. We strared straight and walked right past two cops, then a few feet after we passed them, we heard them whistle at us and say, "Hey amigo! ...hey!....hey!" We just ignored them and kept staring straight and walking and those douche bags just gave up.


What would happen if you were that close to the border, and had a feeling they were really going to F- with you; could you just take off running to the USA, or could they shoot you in the back? I'd be damned if I ever had to bribe one of those dipshits less than 100 yards from the border.

Yes, it is unsettling, once in a while we have these situations. I have done the same thing of walking on revolution early morning to get a sleeping pill ! And of all people I ask directions from cops for the pharmacy, I had learnt a trick a long time ago, before the cops ask you questions you ask them some Then I got the damn sleeping pills from a 24 hour pharmacy and took a cab to go back to the hotel. But I could have been accosted by cops for not having prescription ! Now dont ask me why I needed a sleeping pilli in TJ, I should have been having a sleeping doll I hate those damn receptionist to work in glove with the cops

After, a night of mongering, we checked out of our hotel on Sunday Morning, only to find our car was still locked up in a garage. So we decided to walk down to Revolution and get some breakfast. As me and my buddy were walking, a cop car pulls up and stops in the middle of the street and two cops acost us and try to shake us down. We played it safe and acted politely, they were fishing for some illegal contraband. My buddy had some pharmaceticuals he purchased at a pharmacia, they weren't interested. After searching us, they let us move on. It is our belief that the asshole working the front desk at our hotel alerted the police we had left. Consequently, I have read on Wikipedia, this is typical and to be expected in Tijuana. After, coming down here for the past five years with no problems it was a bit unsettling.

While on the subject, I try to make "peace" with the local "dons" read cops, I bought a taco or two for one cop. Some months ago I bought a drink for the cop who stands outside Miami and keeps coming in and out. But the guy kept coming to me every time I visit, so I stopped going to Miami for a while . Seriously the good thing about Mexican cops is they are bribable ! like in most third world countries. One has to recognize and manage that aspect. No point in insisting on U.S. type "rights", you leave that privelge oncce you cross the border
