Tobe honest I've never correlated a higher price with "extras" but I think that you're right in thinking that there are bound to be some out there who do, which in turn increases the risk.

Still disagree on "massage as a necessity" though

Hi Clare,

I'm a little unclear what you're looking for - you have also posted threads in other parts of Healthy Pagesrequesting help with Indian head massage, holistic massage and reflexology case studies.

Are you needing help with getting started, or looking for people to email case studies that you can alter and thenpresent as your own? If it is the latter, whilst I sympathise with your struggle to get the work done, you would not be doing yourself (or our industry) any favours in the long run by using other people's work as a short-cut to your accreditation (I apologise if I've misread your intent ).

If it is simply that you are unsure how to present your case studies, here on HP we can give you some general pointers on layout and the type of things assessors are looking for, etc. I'm sure one of your tutors or fellow students will also be happy to help. What in particular is it you are struggling with?

If it is more a case of being overwhelmed with too much work to fit into a busy life, I would suggest speaking with a tutor and explaining your situation - I know that some colleges allow students to defer their final assessment under exceptional circumstances, and it might give you the extra breathing space you need to get things done. At the very least, they will be ableto offer you support and guidance to ease some of the worry you must be experiencing.

I understand how difficult it can be to fit college work around a job, children and all the other things that life throws at us, and I would urge you to speak with your tutors and see how they can help.

I think that a great deal depends on the environment in which a therapist is working. Certainly a therapist’s personal safety is more important than her bank balance, but if a therapist is working in a safe environment, then refusing to treat any male clients whatsoever will significantly reduce her potential income. I would agree with ‘Barbarellaboy’s earlier comment that

Hello Alan could i ask you for a bit of advice please? I am a family man and have always been interested in massage but am a bit hesitent in going on a training course.I am a male by the way.The thing that holds me back is the thought that certain people might view me as a perv or something.You know what some people are like.They might say "do you do extras"or something like that.Is there bad stigma involved with massage?Ime a bit naive you see.

Hello oaktree[/align][/align]People learn massage for a number of reasons, where I trained there where quite a few of both genders learning and it was not cheap, many where just learning it for their own use, others like myself where already practicing and wanted the formal training to go along with what we where already doing, a few of the remaining would use their training to go into practice.[/align][/align]Most massage therapist will be asked at one time or anotherand from both genders if theydo extras, this is a bit of a shock the first time it happens but it is something which we learn to take in our strides.[/align][/align]The stigma does not generally come from the massage therapists but from the massage parlours which are brothels in disguise, I think once the government gets its act together over prostitution then they will be called brothels and the distinction will become self evident.[/align]

In reply to oaktree - I basically agree with Paul, but I think that I tend to be more cautious with my views on advertising than Paul is, as you will see if you read the first page of this thread.
There seem to be an increasing number of male therapists (particularly judging from the number of male contributors to this forum), and I would certainly encourage you to go on a training course, but personally I would adviseyou to check your prospective tutor's viewabout male students before applying. There still seem to be a few female tutors who think that massage should be a female-only profession: for an example of the problems faced by one male student, see the earlier thread
