Please don't bring up chretien...can't stand him, or any of the other parasites that pass for "statesmen" in this country. as for the 60 cent dollar...i didn't mention that at all. it has no bearing on my argument. we actually NEED a low dollar in order to compete. we rely on exports, in case you forgot.
I am not blaming the PQ for anything, MeAndJunior. There is no right and wrong. It is a fact that Montreal saw an exodus of capital to Toronto following the panic of the PQ election in 1976. I am not justifying it, or blaming anyone for anything. If the economic centre moved to the west, why toronto? why not calgary? because it has no port. vancouver has a port, money and asian hotties. same for toronto. montreal has a port and...no money. no money, no fun-ee.
you say the economic centres moved west in the US too. I disagree. NYC is still the financial capital of the USA...why didn't their businesses move to chicago or Atlanta or LA? why did the economic centre move west only in canada?
Because WE f*cked up.
Now my original point was about chinese hotties immigrating to Toronto and not Montreal...the reason is simple. they learn the rudiments of english in china, they realise how much more useful english is vis-a-vis french and make their decision based on simple economics. Nothing personal, just business. who immigrates to montreal? Fat asses from togo and senegal and covered up muslim women from the maghreb, that's who.
by the way, i prefer to use french in my daily life and if i had to make a choice in ANY referendum, i would choose the social-democratric option, whatever side may have it. in other words, i would reject a neo-liberal canada in favour of a socially democratic Quebec libre.
Amicalement,
