Massage Course... Manchester school of Massage, any good?

Hello everyone,

I'm wanting to get into professional sports massaging. I Have talked to a few friends and have decided I'm going to do the following:

Level 3 Diploma in Holistic Therapies
Then
Level 3 Certificate in Sports Massage Therapy
Then
Level 4 Certificate in Sports Massage Therapy

All I need to do is decided where to do the courses. I live in Huddersfield and don't want to travel too far so i was thinking somewhere in Manchester or Leeds.
I found this course > Holistic Therapies Diploma courses at Manchester School of Massage UK and looks perfect but I can't find anyone that has been to this place. I really want to know I'm going somewhere with decent teachers so if you have had any experience with the Manchester school of massage please let me know, good, bad, anything.

I've heard from a few people they are very good. However, when I tried to do a course there the dates were postponed twice. That could just be my bad luck and I have to say that they refunded my money quite quickly with no quarrels. Good luck with whoever you study with.

Hi Sam,

I maybe wrong but there is no need to do a level 3 and then a level 4 sports massage course. You can go straight to the level 4. Another option is to weigh up the costs of doing a level 3 holistic course and then a level 4 sports massage course compared to doing a level 4 or 5 with a training provider that is endorsed by the Institute of Sport and Remedial Massage. If its sports massage you want to do then why do holistic massage?

Another option is to pay no attention to level 4,5,6.........500etcetc and purely do a level 3 and then quality CPD in areas that interest you. To register with the CNHC you need to have a level 3 that is recognised as meeting national occupational standards. Contact the Sports and Remedial Therapies Council for advice on which course fulfills the above.

Research courses thoroughly before signing up.

Being a big fan of the actor Roger Moore, I read his autobiography, and in it he says hes often asked about certain actors hes worked with, especially those he doesnt like. His response was that if he didnt have anything good to say about a person he wouldnt say anything. Im not saying anything about Manchester School of Massage (and I can say that out of personal experience, and also through training some of their sports massage graduates )

If you are in Leeds why not try the White Rose group, they have a pretty good reputation.

As Aspire mentioned, if you are looking at training in Sports Massage, why not email the SRTC to see if the school you mentioned is on their list of schools meeting the National Occupational Standards and Core Curriculum, it may save you money in the long run if you are looking at doing an industry and regulator recognised course.

I have recently ske a major awarding body and the CAM regulator to clarify how this course can meet QCF without the required number of guided learning hours or assessment criteria

There is another manchester based trainer who would be a better alternative

I recently completed a level 5 course with the Active Health Group in Manchester, overall I was very happy with the content of the course, the focus and practical skills being taught and also the value for money.

I now have two physio's an osteo and a sports massage therapist all working from my clinic and having now interviewed sports therapists and sports massage therapists qualifying via a number of routes which reinforced the decision I made to train with AHG.

I am yet to meet another sports therapy / sports massage therapist practitioner who I believe has received a better standard of (diploma) training.
