been introduced? i live in a third world country where medical care is not too great and i don't have much option. i am going to the best hospital with the best doctor. even so.... with my first baby, i was induced at almost 42 weeks and was in labour for 36+ hours before i went in for an emergency c-section (though i had to wait as no surgery rooms available) and had general anesthesia. i was not planning on having a c-section so had not really researched on it.
with my second baby, i wanted a vbac, but because of the level of medical care, my husband was against it and my doc was not very eager either. so i asked if i could have an epidural and stay awake during the c-section. my doc agreed to that, saying he has done that before (didn't specify how many though and didn't sound convincing either) but he said rule is hubby not allowed in the theater room with me. he told me to talk to the anesthesist. i went to the anesthesist a week before my c-section date and told him of my requirements and he was like, oh, the needles that they had ordered were not too good but no prob, he has done epidural before (didn't sound very convincing) and i could still have the epidural with the new needles but it might be painful but still effective. so hubby told me, forget it, get a general anesthesia done, they have never done an epidural before and he didn't want me to be the guinee pig. so 2nd baby delivered by scheduled c-section by general anesthesia (though again, surgery delayed by whole day as there were some emergency cases so surgery room not available).
now i am pregnant again and still stuck in this third world country. hubby told me don't even think about epidurals. but when i went for my checkup, they have put up posters at the hospital EPIDURAL NOW AVAILABLE and nurses at the ante-natal clinics were giving lectures to the local women about the epidurals (for normal deliveries) how safe it is, etc. i talked to a few local woman and all were like no, they not going for it since no-one they know has done it. i have 3 more months left of my pregnancy and i am sure by than the hospital might have performed a few epidurals at least for normal deliveries anyway and i want to ask again for the epidural during my c-section but my hubby is like the hosp is still new at it, and they will gladly and willing give me the epidural because someone has to be a first, but why should i be the first and why do i want to take a chance and when i have survived and experienced the general anesthesia with my first 2 c-sections.
so yeah, what would u do??? general anesthesia or epidural for c-section when you know the doc/anesthesist are inexperineced.
oh, yesterday a lady was trying to book herself for an emergency c-section (doc orders) as her water had broken and she has been having strong contractions for the past few days and she had to deliver by c-section as previous babies were c-sections also. she was told to wait TWO weeks cos surgery room was fully booked. ?????????? ok, so any thoughts i have of VBAC are no longer there.
those of you who are going to tell me to get the heck out of the country and deliver my baby elsewhere, please send me a ticket and pay for my medical expenses and i will love you forever.
