NEW YORK (1010 WINS/WCBS 880) — A woman was slashed in the ribs outside of a Jackson Heights, Queens establishment late Saturday night and law enforcement is investigating, the NYPD said.
At about 11:48 p.m., a dispute between a man and woman, 32, turned violent when he stabbed her in the abdomen outside of 3764 90th St., near Roosevelt Avenue.
The victim was transported to NYC Health + Hospitals/Elmhurst in stable condition, police said.
Investigators are searching for a suspect wearing a gray hooded sweatshirt who fled on foot down 90th Street to 37th Avenue.
The address used to be a shop that sold smoothies, but the location now has a roll-down gate and locals say it moonlights as a massage parlor.
Next door to where the incident occurred there is a grocery store, and the manager, Nelson, told 1010 WINS/WCBS 880 that the area is in decline, despite him noticing a strong police presence.
“I don’t know what’s going on around here, this neighborhood’s getting bad right now. This happening a lot around here, all over. Roosevelt Avenue, all over around here,” he said.
In an initiative overseen by Mayor Eric Adams last month, the NYPD closed several alleged Queens brothels disguised as massage parlors, some of which were in Jackson Heights.
“We’re going to the heart of the problem,” Adams said to officers in the 115th precinct assigned to the operation. “We’re going to go to those brothels that are attempting to take the city down a dark path that we’re not going to go through again.”
