Why can I see a contact typing a msg in Chat, but don't get the message?

I am using Mozilla......The Contact requested me to be able to chat with them and I allowed them to do that, so I can see the full page chat window and I can see when my Contact is typing a msg, but I don't get their message. I typed back to them and I can see my msg. to them and they can read it, but that's all.

I also added the Contact's Yahoo Messenger ID in their contact info that I have for emailing and everything, but they don't show up as being online, during the time we are trying to chat and they have their status as "Available".

The only weird thing I noticed was when I signed in to my Yahoo Mail account, when the message appeared telling me that the contact was requesting me to be able to chat with them, in the First and Last Name boxes it had words that weren't their name--not that it matters here, but it said something like "I don't have time" in the name boxes. Would that mess things up? Their email address was correct. ????
