As always, several rival inventors were at work in different countries from the mid-1920s onward. The British Broadcasting Corporation started television broadcasts at the end of 1936, intending to be able to televise the Royal Coronation planned for May 1937. Meanwhile Germany was starting TV at almost the same time.
