What's Are Some Tips On Introducing A New Rat To Me And My Rats? And some

other questions...? Well, my rat Flower has a huge tumor and when she passes I want my other rat to still have a play mate, how can I introduce them to each other, so they don't fight? And how would I get the new rat used to me?

I was also thinking of getting a boy rat, but I have two girls ,and I don't want to breed them because I've heard that the Momma rat gets meaner after she has babies, but then I'd have to give hime a playmate, and I don't have enough room for four rats.And I also thought it was a good idea to get a boy because I've heard they live longer, and are less prone to tumors. Could I get some advice on this?

Stick with a new female and introduce her now so that the healthy rat doesn't feel like you are replacing your friend, I know, it sounds silly. The way to introduce a new rat is ALWAYS put them in a new cage or a place they have never been before (like your bathtub). They will bicker at first and it will settle into play fighting but if you stick them both in their cage, the one will want to hold its territory. You may have to break it up if it gets to bad and try again in a couple minutes.

There is also the idea that you could find a vet to neuter a male, keep it in a separate cage for a little until it heals and then introduce the male because it is true that males are less prone to tumors.

As for getting the new rat used to you, the younger- the better. Adult rats can become friendly but if you raise it up, in my opinion, it is better.

well you could get some males, but you will have to get the fixed, so you might as well get some females. ive successfully introduced 4 male rats to 2 older male rats. all i did was let them out in the bath together, you need to keep a spray bottle with you (filled with water) just incase any fights break out. my older rats just sniffed the younger ones and followed them around, but they never showed any aggression towards them.

my younger rats were 4 weeks old when they were introduced to my older rats who were over 1.5 years.
