What ways work introducing new dogs to estab. dog homes?

1+ yr old male english and 11 yr old female pit (excellent temprament) - pit has been only dog for about 6 yrs, we do have other pets, cat & exotic birds. Pit (Heidi) has been around other dogs in the past 2 yrs, but still concerned. Been checking out youtube and Cesar Milan's videos. still nervous. Bosco(english Bull) is not nuetered yet, appointment week after aquistition. Have two children in home 11 & 12, girl & boy (resp) , Cat is male (nuetered) about 11-12 yr old - doesn't seem to care alot about other pets, birds included, great cat, not so concerned about him. Any advice would be appreciated
