What is the best way to introduce a horse to a hackamore?

I would like to start using a hackamore with the horse I'm leasing (the owners have one and were acceptable of the idea). What is the best way to introduce him to it? From what I know, they have never used it on him. I would obviously not want to just put it on and start riding off. How can I get him use to it before hopping on?
