What effects does introducing American media have on a non-western country?

I'm doing an essay on the effects of the media on Anorexia for school and found an amazing example a couple of weeks ago about how a country (I think Cuba) previously didn't have any American TV shows or media of any sort, but once this was introduced females opinions of their body weight changed drastically and they became more inclined to desire a skinnier frame... does anybody know of this example or where I could be found. I've been searching the internet and can't find it, I know it's pretty hopeless... But it's worth a try...

You should interview people from those parts of the world like foreigners i was watching this series jessica simpson did about women from different cultures who change their appearence to be attracted to men or its part of their tradition they dont do the anorexia thing to much because they are not lazy like americans are to be fat but they are more obssesd with the white cultur in america the blond hair and blue eyes thing and haveing liter skin its alot because diffrent cultures do diffrent things but anorexia is more of an american thing because america makes every imoral thing a disorder other countries admitte the truth to why they do what they do

The same effect introducing non-western media into America would have on America.

It's exactly the same. You're brought up with certain values and belief systems. When you're confronted with foreign views and belief systems which conflict with those that you have been brought up around, it's not uncommon for people to reject them (except for the minority of open-minded people who can think rationally).

It's just like the human body, fighting off foreign cells with anti-bodies. The anti-bodies don't care if the foreign cells are good for the body or not, they will fight them regardless.

The trouble is, most cultures are deliberately narrow-minded to their set of values. Only open-minded, understanding people try to understand foreign beliefs and values for what they are, and not as a threat to their bigoted ways of thinking.

Sadly, a great deal of the population are narrow-minded bigots who don't give anything a chance and perceive things which conflict with their ways of thinking as threats.. just like anti-bodies.
