What are the pros and cons of introducing a second cat into a small home?

I live in a unit with my partner. Basically there are two bedrooms, a small bathroom/laundry, and an open space in which we have a living room, the kitchen and a small, empty section which COULD fit a dining table. I don't know exactly how big it is, but it's quite cosy.

I currently own an 8mnth old neutured male cat. I have been thinking about getting a second cat for some time, but am not sure if I should put it off until I'm living somewhere bigger.

What are the pros and cons of adding a second cat to a small home?

Pros: You have added another amazing edition to your family, your 8 month old cat now has someone to interact with, and because you are in a smaller place it will be easier to interact with.

Cons: All of the regular cons associated with cats such as food cost, shedding, litter boxes ect is now essentially doubled. The cats might become restless and irritated and you may find yourself trying to keep them from escaping or fighting.

I think that you should get another cat because over all it will add to your enjoyment around the house, but I suggest that you make sure that you can take care of both cats first.

Cats don't really need companion cats. Adopting another cat from a shelter is a nice thing to do. If your partner is OK with it, then its mostly practical issues, like food expense and cleaning the litter box more frequently. Your vet expense will also double and you'll need to get the second cat neutered or spayed. With a second cat, you may encounter some fighting and chasing, which entails more wear and tear on your furniture. I've always had more than one cat.

Well I have a good friend who lives in a similar housing arrangement, and she has 2 neutered male cats. they get along quite well.. lol

Pros:
they might exhibit hilariously amusing behavior if they get along
they have a friend who understands them fully, being a cat, and someone to play with
they will probably get more exercise since they will probably play together, and fight.. (play fight)

Cons:
more mess for you, but not a whole lot, unless the new cat is especially messy
more fur on furniture
more poo and stink, along with more food needed

Honestly as long as you can afford two adult cats' food, litter, and healthcare, I see no reason not to get a second one if you want. The pros outweigh the cons, from what I've seen with my friend..
