We don't want to introduce our families?

My boyfriend and I don't want to introduce our families because his mom is a gossip and will start drama with not only her own family but mine as well. We have been together for a year and we really don't want them to ever meet. He said that if we stay together and get married that he doesn't want his side of the family at the wedding. I feel bad, but I understand how he feels. Would it be wrong to not introduce our families because his mom will start stuff?
He is not the only one telling me these things. His mom and brother tell me what his aunts say and his brother and aunts tell me what his mom says. They all tell me that my boyfriend sticks up for me, but they never tell me about what THEY say just what the OTHERS say.

I can understand at THIS juncture, why you would want privacy if not some secrecy, given the circumstances you describe. HOWEVER, if in time? You two CHOOSE to marry? It is a sad, sad commentary, that his family is so bad (-and how do you know they are in truth? You only have his word...there could be two-way situations you're completely unaware of or he has failed to mention...isn't this why as adults, we choose to make our OWN judgment calls?!) that he would not want them at his wedding. Do they have prison records? A history of harming others? Pray tell, WHAT???

For now? You two are just dating...let it be...If you're still dating in a year or more, you may want to consider and "test the waters" so to speak, to see for yourselves, just how they behave; what is said, etc. THEN you'll know for sure...You can ALWAYS backoff you know...Limit your friendliness and interactions if you sense there is real truth in their problems regarding gossip and drama...very easy to do (as one whose done it early on in my own marriage).
