Washing essential oils out of hair

Hi,

I am reading up about oils to use in hair and on scalp.

To get the oils out I read that you should shampoo your hair without any water giving it a good rub to produce a good lather, then repeat this two more times!!

Does anyone else have any tips....SLS free shampoo don't really produce a good lather... and also it just seems a bit harsh and quite time consuming.

Any advice appreciated. Thanks x

The 'repeat' bit is as needed. The apply shampoo before water is mainly to get the base oils out of the hair, particularly for very oily Ayurvedic treatments where you can be literally dripping with base oil, that type of oil treatment may require the multiple shampoo application. If you've just put some oil rather than a bottle of oil, you probably won't need to repeat so much.

Note with Ayurvedic treatments, and also with essential oil, it's not recommended that you wash it off straight away after the treatment, you should try to leave it on for as long as possible since you will keep absorbing the essential oils and herbs for a few hours after the treatment. With some very oily treatments such as shirodhara it's recommended the client bring a towel to wrap their hair in to go home in, not the best look if using public transport, but after a shirodhara treatment it's also recommended you avoid crowds (public transport) so isn't a problem for most.

thanks for that cola, I am planning to do it on myself this weekend before I suggest it to anyone else. I am just using carrier oil and some essential oils, not too much though.
I am planning to wrap hair up in warm towel then I will leave the oils in overnight.

Always use oils on the head with caution, as they may be quite stimulating. Extra caution should be taken with people with epilepsy.

thanks aromababe, i'm studying aromatherapy at the mo so wouldn't touch anyone with something I'm not 100% sure with (except my OH, he's my guinea pig lol)
