There are no fees if you stay within 75 miles of the border. However, many rental car companies don't allow their cars to go to Mexico.

Be sure to buy Mexican auto insurance, without it you'll end up in jail if you're in a accident. Mexican law does not recognize "foreign" policies--so get Mexican insurance even if you have other coverage.

Warren gives good advice about using the bus or taking a cab if you are just going to Tijuana. There aren't a lot of parking spaces so a car isn't helpful unless you are doing some traveling. (If you're going on down to Ensenada or Rosarito you'll want a car. To visit the Zona Norte (red light district) a cab will better suit your needs.)

I will be driving a rental vehicle from california into Tijuana. Can someone tell me what type of fees I will incur when crossing the border with a vehicle ? Is there a fee I have to pay for myself to enter ?

IronMaiden...the San Diego-Tijuana border crossing is (according to the US gov't) the busiest border crossing in the world. Literally thousands of people visit Tijuana daily without incident. While bad things do sometimes happen, the actual perceneforum.xxxe of people experiencing problems in TJ is very, very small. So I'm not surprised you had not problems--including when you saw cops.

...reservations don't mean much in TJ, especially in the less expensive hotles, like Villa Zaragosa. So try to get there early in the day. The VZ is nicer than a Motel 6, maybe like an older Best Western, but it's not the type of place that leaves a mint on your pillow. (Those type of hotels are located in the Zona Rio; a $5.00 cab ride.)

One more thing: avoid using credit cards. Especially at a place like Villa Zaragosa (the clerk will probably sell your info) otherwise it's a safe, decent place to stay.

You'll find all sorts of places to eat on Ave. Revolucion, one block away from Madero where the Villa Zaragosa is located. In the Zona, Monte Carlo and Al Capones are OK.

If you are into gourmet dining (like me) then try some of the restarants in the Zona Rio. (There's another Tijuana--where the doctors, lawyers, and Indian chiefs go--that tourists don't know about. It's their loss too.) Entries will be around $20.00. You can get information on TJ Amgios about locations. I highly recommend Villa Savarios for those who like fine dining. (If your idea of diner is a $0.99 cent taco then don't bother.) Other places for those who like fine dining to try are Cien Anos, Rivoli in Hotel Lucerana, and Pampas across from Hacienda del Rio. The steaks at D'Tonys across the street from Ricardos (downtown at 7th and Madero) are good--unless you are used to Mortons.

also, I was there by myself on a Monday night and I'm 5' 6" 130 pds, was dressed in ck jeans and a perry ellis dark red dress shirt, no watch and my wallet was in my back pocket. Everyone was friendly and no problems. I seen a few cops but I wasn't drunk. I have dark features, black hair but look italian, maybe this helps not sure. I just didn't see or have any problems, this was approximately 3 weeks ago.

"Please read this" You do not or should you pay for a taxi when entering Tijuana, just walk to the Zona area, all you have do is head straight for the silver arch. It's only a 10 minute walk at the most. Also, once there head away from the arch on Revolution and I believe it's 5th street you'll see an internet massageplanete through a huge glass window, turn left down that street (it's a hill, you'll go straight down) and there is a hotel $26.00 for a large room connected to a nice restaurant, across the street less than 20 seconds is another restaurant which serves awesome chicken, I've eaten there plenty of times and it's cheap and good stuff. Sorry can't remember the name of the hotel.

Chicas don't have to pay for drinks. You're the one bying, if you want the pleasure of talking to them before (or instead of) going upstairs. Patron's beer is $1-3.25, depending on time of the day and a club.

As others have suggested, you'll find a lot of information about Tijuana on www.tjamigos.com. TJ Amgios, a free site, even some guides (FAQ forum) for those who have never been to TJ. They'll answer a lot of your questions.

The best hotels are in the Zona Rio area. Pueblo Amigo is very popular. I lilke the Lucerna. Hacienda del Rio is an acceptable choice. Prices are $90.00+ at Zona Rio places. (Bring a AAA card.) It's a $5.00 cab ride to the Zona Norte.

In the downtown area the Villa Zaragosa, at 7th and Madero, is a decent choice. It's $45.00+. It's close to Ricardos, a 24-hour restuarant, with decend food. ($10-$15 for a dinner.) It's within walking distance of the Zona Norte.

I don't like the Zona Norte hotels, but there is a new one, Hotel del Santiago, that is still nice looking. Its something like $38.00.

Ficha drinks (a beer for the chicas) is usually $7.00; your beer is less. Monte Carlo, in the Zona Norte next to Adelitas, is a decent place to eat. Around $7.00 for dinner.

Adelitas and Chicago Club are good places (bars) for "newbies" looking for action.

First, I could'nt have done this by myself without all the help of the members in this forum. So, I wanted to thanks for everybody who provided info, tips and experiences. My trip to TJ is one of the best sex trips Iv'e had.

Drove down to last exit usa and parked at the first parking lot, $7 border parking which looked pretty safe. (Suggestion, if you think you're gonna be hungry for the next hour or two, you should pass the parking for about 2 blocks and you can spot a MCdonalds or other places to eat in the outlet mall) Walked to the border and took a cab. I confirmed that it was $5 going to adelitas before i went in. Dropped me off in front of adelita's, it was around 10 am so I first walked around the block to look for SG's. Did my first one for $20 and $5 for the room (15 mins). As, everyone know, this is the standard price for any SG's and the rooms.
I think the perceneforum.xxxe of the Sg's are 70% are ugly, 20% are ok and 10% are good. My first sg has a body of a 8 and face about a 7. I will never do her again though, I was just exited. She belong's to the 20% that are ok.
After that, i decided to walk around on Revolucion ave (Between 7th and 1st), where you can find Carl's and BK. This is a safer place beacuse you can see a lot of tourist walking around. Wen't to BK, ordered some fries and drink and rested for about 30 min for my next SG incounter before hitting the clubs. Spotted my 2nd SG and man she was the best SG iv'e seen, 19 yrs old and have to pay her an extra 5 for doggie. She really can bend her ass.

After that, went to Hongkong around 2 pm, moderate action, same in Miami. Ordered 7up for $3.25. You have to get something to stay and look around in the club. Just get some drink and sit in the corner. Then finally decided to go to Adelitas around 4 for my final chicka. There we're a lot of beutiful girls in there, I found maybe 5 10's. there were probably 45 girls in there and only 20 guys. Finally decided to take Vanessa, the most beutiful latina i've ever seen.
I can tell becuse when we stepped out of the club to go upstairs, I saw her in daytime and she really is flawless. The chicka's at adelitas is $60 (All positons and including cbj), $13 for the room and $2 tip for the room guys, the're gonna hustle you for tips, just give one a $1 or two and don't mind the other ones. Took the cab going back around 5 in front of adelita's (Which is the safest thing to do at that time and especially at night. $5 also, just tell the cabbie "Border") and got there at the border in less than 10 mins. You just have to wait in line for about 30 mins to go back to the us. I'm not sure if i'm gonna try to go back there at night by myself, looks like it could be a little dangerous but for sure, daytime is pretty ok. I will be back in this evil place at least twice a month.

Go to tjamigos.com where you can read loads of reports and reviews on food, lodging and chicas for free.

A restaurant meal is in the $5-15 range. Some decent hotels close to the Zona are around Avenida Revolucion (the main drag). Walk round and check them out to see which one is to your liking.

TJ is a rough town to stay in (depressing, noisy and dangerous). I can never stomach staying there for more than a few days in a row. Rosarito is a bit nicer and quieter (but more expensive!) and you can catch a collective taxi there for a little more than $1.

Most of Baja California is dirty, overpriced and has lots of thieves and hustlers (even in the middle of the desert!), but there's one block in Mexico that's worth going to. I'm talking about Coahuila in Zona Norte de Tijuana, where the decently priced girls are.

Mexico and Tijuana are two different things, seems like.

In TJ an average hotel 5mins from red light district will set you back around $30. Get some ear plugs!

Restaurant food and booze costs pretty much the same as in San Diego, maybe 33% cheaper. Street tacos/hot dogs are $1 a piece, sometimes half that. There's Carls Jr., Burger King etc.

Zona Norte has strip clubs with $1-1.50 beers. You may touch the strippers for a $1 tip.

I'm planning on going to tj in early may. I have no idea what the prices in Mexico are like. How much is an adequate hotel (ie: like comfort inn or travel lodge) ? I'm looking for something safe & clean. How much does an average meal cost in tj ? How much is a beer ?
