Am sure you have heard it being used.
It's one of our words than can be used for everything.

Andale can mean "hurry up"
It can be used as in "andale" (am surprised)
Andale can be used as "go".
Go away, faster.... etc.

And every single Spaniard uses the word "vale".
So I must say that you Americans are also annoying cause it translates straight into "ok".
Yep, that's the direct equivalent. Vale = Ok.

There are Mexicans who finish every sentence with a "guey" the same way Canadians end every sentence with "eh" or Andalusians (southern Spaniards) say "vale". They're all fucking annoying.

"No vale la pena" is a common expression when something is just not worth the trouble.

Your phrase "No merece la pena." I have no idea what that means. But what I think you mean is "You are not worth it"/"No vales la pena" but I don't think this would be a proper sentence to use on a sg. You would definitely use this on a civillian who's giving you the run around and playing hard to get. What you could say instead is Amigomio's response or "No vales eso"/"You are not worth that." Guey is used among the guys but some girls use it too. I don't like it when they use it. It sounds horrible and I wouldn't use it when talking to a girl. It just doesn't sound good.

Also... Just learned a phrase. No merece la pena. And I figure you can tack on a guey for good measure. Would the usage be correct in this situation?

Sometimes I do waive them off with my hands but you know how they are. They keep on bugging. I don't care. I make it my mission not to pay attention to meseros unless I need a beer which I also don't care too much about.

IMO the chica who I'm talking to stands to lose the most when meseros are bugging me. I'm not going to give in to anything they have to offer me. In my experiences the chicas get them off my back because they sense my frustration. I haven't done it but if the mesero insists I will get up and approach another chica or do something else.

And if I get up I'll probably not come back to the chica to continue to work out a deal. It wouldn't be to punish her but it's probably because I already know enough to make a judgment at that point and maybe the deal was going no where. And I don't like going back and forth with a chica.

Your number 1 translation problem is that the girls at the border don't speak Spanish, they speak Mexican. If you speak Spanish well enough you can still somehow communicate with them.

I do use google translate but find that its too literal.

For example, translated backwards from the other suggestions you get the following:


1) Me quieres ver la cara de pendejo?/Me miro pendejo o que?
I want to see the face of asshole? / I look stupid or what?
the second one translates well, the first, not so much

2) No mames guey
Googles has no idea what this means.
