Tongren Lu Bars will call last orders on November 15th

Last Saturday, I took a walk to the soon-to be-open underground bar area in 158 Julu Lu / Chengdu Lu, but did not spot any bars there. I stopped searching after a few minutes and then started to walk home where I intended to cry myself to sleep.

At around 1 o' clock my phone rang and a mate asked me to join his group for a pint in Manhattan. I must say that Gopher is right. Manhattan is definitely the place to be.

I immediately felt like being at home, especially because the Woodstock dancer shaked her ass on the pole. The place is very very similar to the old Manhattan, yet bigger and better. Being a frequent visitor, I also spotted many girls who didn't hang around in Judy's TOO or Manhattan before: New talent.

My impression is that many 2nd-floor bar-girls of TL as well as some girls who's saunas have been closed down, are now trying to get business here.

Last Wednesday I have even met some TL girls in Zapata's who asked me what the heck I'm doing in Zapata's. When I told them I am there because Tongren Lu is closed, they admitted to be around for the same reason.

Last Thursday we were involved in some scouting activities. First paid a visit to the Woodstock in Pudong and had a few pints there. After that we went to check out Changyi Road in Pudong and went to Happy Sisters Bar, Sports Bar and some others. In one of the last bars (I don't remember the name) they hooked me up with a talking girl who was older than my gf's mother. Thanks, but no thanks.

Apparently there are a few FL in several places of Changy Lu, including Pinay's, but after visiting Manhattan Club on Saturday, it is most likely that Changyi Lu won't see my fat face again...

I am off to the Philippines for holidays now and look forward to check out the bar-scene again when I am back in January. If anyone has any new information, especially about the 158 Julu Lu-area, please post it here.

Manhattan lives. I would say the first night was a success (minus the plumbing problems in the bathroom...and I am not speaking of a personal problem). The place was packed...lots of familiar faces. Their new place maintains the sleeziness but includes more space. A few girls got into a fight, a Chinese dude passed out by the bathroom and you had your regular seedy customers...so everything seemed perfect. I was glad to see the little pizza shop that used to be by Manhattan also relocated nearby. It appears Manhattan will continue to be the number one destination for picking up FLs in Shanghai.

I noticed that Big Bamboo nearby had attracted a large number of black drug dealers...which will eventually attact the attention of the police (as it did with Windows 2 earlier this year. Some of them started to make their way over to Manhattan.

Current mix of Manhattan is about 1/3 Filipina, 1/3 Chinese and 1/3 Vietnamese.

Woodstock bar moves to a new (underground) location in 158 Julu Lu / Chengdu Lu. According to Miles, the manager of Woodstock, some of the 2nd floor bars relocate to this location as well.

Judy's TOO already started decorating the new club in the former M-Zone bar, right on the corner of Tongren Lu / Nanjing Lu.

Manhattan Club will open next to the Big Bamboo in Nanyang Lu / Tongren Lu.

According to the owner of Judy's two the bars will not have to move until "next year"

They were closed on Nov 15th, as were all bars in SH because Obama was coming...

Supposed to be back to normal today.

Sad to hear that they r moving....but, I am sure that there will be new places...If I hear anything, will post here...
So far, apart from Tungren road, my favourite places are in Nanjing road, next to the fake market and Golden 18 club ( JJ's) in Wulumuqi road...

Good people of Shanghai,

let's give the upcoming end of (in)famous Tongren Lu it's own thread.

There isn't a lot of talk about the TL bars on this forum, but I bet that about half of the Shanghai members end up in one of their premises at least once per week. My mates and I visit Woodstock once or twice a week, and always hope that the mix of alcohol and hormons won't take us to the second floor after a few hours with Lucy, Miles and their talking-girls.

It is now confirmed from several sources that Tongren Lu 'as we know it' will be nothing but sweet memories after next weekend. Some of the bars will stay open until the end of the month, but then it's game over. As some of you might have witnessed, Julu Lu bar-street is a construction-site as well. Bars like Pretty Woman, Flashback, Badlands and many others have disappeared from the map.

According to my information, the owners of Woodstock are planning to move to a new place in Puxi, together with Judy's TOO and Manhattan as mongerer-magnets, but it is not yet clear where they will go.

Let us use this thread to keep fellow mpnet members up-to-date about re-locations of the TL-Bars and about alternative places to visit after November 15th.
