Another tip if you are using the trolley to the border, once you arrive at san ysidro and are a bit lazy like me and don't want to walk across the bridge to enter Mexico, I recomend this. Go to the BAHA duty free store when you disembark from the trolley, make any duty free purchase and they will drive you across the bridge to the entrance to TJ. ON A WARM DAY IT REALLY CONSERVES ENERGY USING THE BAHA SHUTTLE.

Also, I use taxi libre and save money using them instead of the yellow cabs. I pay 2.50 using libre instead of 5.00 to get to AB.

Thanks guys, good to get accurate information to save time and hassles. Once I took a cab in a hurry, costs nearly 45$ one way. The trolley/bus is very economical, frequently available, only an added half hour in my guess.

i was on the trolley and there was ticket checks like every 3 stops and no one told me i needed a upgrade never paid a 25 cent upgrade 2.25 from the airport to tj and 2.50 from tj back to the airport

Viking is correct, you have to pay the full cost of the higher fair which in this case is the trolley. I've done this many times in the last 5 years.

The way I came to the conclusion that I needed to pay for the $0.25 upgrade is that if you look at the amout you have to pay from America Plaza to San Ysidro it is $2.50 and the bus ticket is $2.25. But all that doesn't matter to me anymore because I now qualify for the $1.00 price.

I dont think one has to take the upgrade ticket. I had asked the bus driver and couple of people and they said I just have to ask for transfer ticket when I board the bus. I was also checked by a Ticket Enforcer on the trolley once, and he did not find anything either, so I guess it passed the test.

From the San Diego airport take the 992 bus. $2.25 (exact change) unless you qualify for the $1 rate for disabled or senior 60 or over, ask for a transfer. Link below shows map fees and schedule. Get off at America Plaza Trolley Connection at Broadway and Ketner, If unsure ask the driver when you get on the bus. NOTE: there is a time limit for the transfer.

Next Walk across Broadway, you will be at the trolley station, you want the Blue Line to San Ysidro, stay on the right side of the tracks as you enter. You will need to upgrade your transfer to $2.50, there are several ticket machines, get a $0.25 upgrade ticket. Make sure you save both the bus transfer and upgrade ticket, they sometimes check for tickets on the trolley. Get off at the last stop San Ysidro, Link below for route and time schedule. Just go over the ped bridge to TJ. I do this about once a month.

Just a suggestion. If you only have a backpack, you could easily walk from the airport to downtown San Diego to pick up the trolley to TJ. It's about 2 miles (depending on which terminal you land at) and you walk along the harbor (once you get away from the airport). It will take you less than an hour and it's actually a very nice walk.

I just checked at thier website and the last trolley leaves the border to go back to San Diego is at 1:59 am. This is on a Saturday however.

Wow, I miss going down there. I am planning on it but not until June 2nd. (Need some money first ) I am looking forward to going back to AB again. Maybe I will get lucky and get a girl who DOES like to have her boobs sucked on. Last time, this girl would not let me do that... wtf?

Anybody else had that experience and what do you do about it. I was upset but did not want to make a scene since I am in a foreign land.

Wow This one I can help with ! You have to take bus number 992 (or 962) and buy a ticket with transfer to BLUE LINE. The bus stops are there at both the terminals, you can confirm with someone about the bus number. The schedule is posted on the bus stop pole. It costs something like $ 2.25 exact change required. The bus comes in every 20 minutes. Say you have to go to the Trolley Station, its Kettner and some street. They all know the Trolley station. Take the Blue line going to San Ysidro. Remember your ticket from the bus is valid here for the day. Its about 15 minutes to the Trolley. And from American Plaza (thats what the station name is), it takes about 45 minutes with about 12 stops, you get down at the last one. While coming back you can buy ticket from the vending machine. Again keep some quarters handy. The trolley runs pretty late and early morning. You can check the schedule at the station.
And no I am not working at the San Diego Airport

Yep, the trolley is cheap and gets you there in decent time, at least from the Gas Lamp area. Only drawback, if any, is having to schedule your departure on the time the last trolley leaves the border.

The trolley runs right by the airport and can drop you off at the border. A day pass is $5, and I am not sure about the price of a one way ticket, but probably less than $3.

I been to tj a few times, and everytime I landed in san diego, I pick up a rental car and drive down to the border, park the dam car at the parkin lot and pay for $7 a day, and never drive it again until the day I go back, can you guy tell me if there is any train or bus that will go from san diego airport to tj? thank you
