ABILENE, Texas — The world is constantly changing, and so are most people’s career choices. Some people are trying different things to make ends meet. In Abilene, a new massage school is helping those who are considering a new career field and much more.

“About 80% of our students are looking for a career change,” said Kathleen Mazy, the Owner of Texas Massage Therapy.

Texas Massage Academy is an academy where you can get licensed to become a massage therapist and so much more. In Abilene, there are not many massage therapy schools. Compared to others, this new academy is flexible when it comes to scheduling. The owner of Texas Massage Academy tells us more about her school and how it came to be.

“We opened texas massage academy in Brownwood in 2011. We actually opened it because we were massage therapists, we had our own spa in Brownwood and we had difficulty finding therapists in the area because there weren’t many options,” said Mazy.

Although they started in Brownwood, Mazy says they have been looking at the Abilene market for many years, since there aren’t many massage schools here. 46% of this program is online. Mazy says, all of their campuses are hybrid campuses. This means all have a portion online for your convenience. The tuition cost a lot less than your typical massage therapy schools. Mazy says there is a much needed need for this academy in the Big Country.

“Our program is a hybrid program. Its half online and half in person,” said Mazy. “So you can go at your own pace to complete the online program. Then once your ready and we have a lab ready, you come in and start your hand skills and complete your internship,” said Mazy.

According to the American massage therapy association, almost half of massage therapists rarely choose the career as their first choice, due to scheduling and location restrictions. With Texas Massage Academy, this is not a problem for their students.
