1. How do you wash terry-cloth slippers?
I've ruined 2 pairs by washing them each only once. They're now overstretched. I threw the first pair in the washing machine (with bleach). The second I just let soak (with bleach). I have since found out they are not to be washed in bleach.
2. What do you wash them in?

in the wash on gentle cycle? maybe with an extra spin to really get the moisture out so you dont have to let them dry excessively.
maybe if the elastic is overstretching, the wash water is too hot, or the bleach is eating the latex?

are these pro-use or personal use?
if for your business, then maybe you could go with disposable footwear, and if these are your personal ones, well.. i'd try another brand.

That's what I was thinking... are they for your clients? Cuz if so, I have a nice alternative. Costco sells these incredibly soft chenille socks in 3 packs. they are in colors like purple, sea foam green, mauve... they are the warmest thing & the softest ever. I give these to bodywrap clients that forget their socks, or if a client has to get up & go to the restroom in the middle of a treatment, etc. Otherwise we don't use slippers.
Did yours come from a spa supply? You'd think that they should be able to be cleaned with hot water & bleach, etc, since they are for multiple wearers, etc. Hmmm. Hope you find some better advice or a better slipper.

We use disposable flipflops. I think we got them through Day Spa Solutions or MW. I like them because the clients can keep them if they want to use in our locker room showers if they want. Or they can toss them.

When I went to a local spa, too long ago, they had waffle cotten slippers (slides) and robes that were very nice and warm.

If it's for clients, I'd say use disposables that you can send them home with - there are just toooooo many nasties that can be lurking around toes/feet/toenails...

But if you really want to wash them, the big thing is no dyrer, which is a pain. Do you mean the terry slippers with a big cushy bit of foam in them that makes them very soft to wear, but as soon as you wash them the foam moves to the wrong end of the slipper? Bleach would kill the foam very quickly, add a dryer and no foam would survive. Or do you mean ones with a hard base? They're still usually recommended as air dry.

Thanks for the replies. The slippers are terry-cloth with a hard base. The top (soft) part got overstretched. I only hand-soaked and air-dried the second pair. Maybe, it was the bleach. Maybe I just bought really cheap slippers. I'll try regular detergent next.
Socks would be good if I were in a health/massage related establishment but I'm in a regular office building.

I recently rediscovered the Amber web site - their slippers found at the bottom of this page http://www.cpostores.com/amberproducts/browse.cfm/2,90.html don't have any elastic, they close with velcro, so fit any size foot, pricey $19, but they look like they'd last. You may be able to find a similar slipper without the brand name for less..... The velcro means you don't have to worry about stretching.

i have a few pair of crappy slippers and i always toss them into the washer and they come out fine. it must be the bleach. otherwise, i don't know what to tell ya!
