should i tell my family my bf's age before i introduce him or let them find out

on their own? he is twice my age and we have been dating for a couple of months, but since i am kind of a private person i haven't shared much about him with my family. (i am worried that they will dislike him because of his age, and that they might be rude to him). i know that i am 19 and can make decisions on my own but i want my family to like him.

Wait a few more months before introducing them because then your parents will have to take you seriously. Also, don't tell them beforehand because then they will form their opinion of him before even meeting him which is dangerous (hard to change someone's mind once they've made it up). Ease them into it by telling them that he is older than you. When they ask how much old, just say old enough to have responsibilities and a steady career, which is what attracted you to him in the first place. Then introduce them.

I think they should find out on their own lol but i bet your parents would like him if he is funny and smart but if you tell them before they will prepare to be mean to him but if they find out on their own they will be kinda shocked and just be too shocked to be mean

It depends on your family. If he were to arrive, make a positive impression and then your parents discover the age issue, it might soften the blow. Alternative, they might ask him his age and be immediately distrustful because you didn't tell them first. It's a bit of a coin-toss, but you know your parents best.

The thing about dating men/women twice your age, is that they have more life experience. Which means they probably know how to manipulate(use) people more. So, I can understand why your parents would not like you dating a man twice your age; they don't want you to get hurt. However, there is one problem you should also consider, and that is what you have in common with this man. Considering the gap between your age, and the amount of experience, it will be harder to carry on a long lasting relationship that lasts more than a few years.

Anyway, if you plan on marrying this man, you should probably tell your parents. If this is not that serious, perhaps you should not, until it becomes serious.
