Should I take a shower first?

Only after you become a regular customer you will know which girl is good for you. You are the customer. If the girl is not to your liking you should tell them you want a different girl. They are not offended by this . They know the set up.
All the girls have a numbered badges. You should note the number for future reference. You can demand the same girl next time. If she is busy at that time they will tell you when she will be free.
Some places have like a bathtub filled with water. In this case you lie down and the girl will wash and scrub you head to toe. You can play with her also.
It is fun. After that she will dry off with a towel and lead you to the room.
Another thing is all these girls will be available as your date after they finish their work. They will give you their phone number if they like you.

A girl came to get me and I was happy with her, but what happens if I don't have enough time to check her out and am thus not sure whether I want her? Mmmmmmm---Sounds like a funny place.
Never experienced such a place where they keep buckets of water for showers. In such cases I would not bother because the water is not clean. When did the water shoreforum.xxxe come to China?
Also the sign " women for men" sounds funny. In China prostituition is not openly advertised. I would avoid such places because of the disease's you can catch. If they do not have running water they obviously are not washing their hands.

The parlour I visited is a small-scale operation. There are no common areas and as I know Chinese, it doesn't try to pretend to do real massages at all. The billboard outside clearly states "women for gentlemen."

Besides the questions I raised in my previous post, I'm wondering b/c I was offered a shower in a huge bucket...is it even clean, though?

The rates are generally posted outside in chinese.
Most massages are chinese or comparable to Thai massages. If you want oil massage say "EE OO" meaning oil. Show your fingers to show if you want 1 hour or 2 hours. The receptionist will have a caculator and will show you how much. This is pretty much fixed price.
Prices wary depending upon how upscale the place is . The girl while massaging will try to to get you excited. Then she will ask you whether you want a hand job for a price ,which generally means a tip. This can be negotiable. If you do she may want you to go to the locker and get the money.
In some places there are full service available. These should be negotiated with the girl not the receptionist. In such cases they will have room upstairs with a bed and the door does not have any glass window, so nobody can peep through.
Tipping in China is not customary for just the massage. Chinese people do not tip anywhere or for anything. Even after dinner in restaurents my girlfriend insists on not leaving a tip.

It is customary in all chinese massage parlors to go to the men's area and put all your clothes in a locker and take a shower. After that the attendent will give you clean overalls and lead you to common area. Then a girl will take you to the massage area.
Chinese people are very serious about cleanliness. In fact they they look down upon anybody who do not take a shower.
Even my chinese girlfriend tells me to take a shower after we finish the first round and want to go for the second round. I oblige.

I went up to the receptionist, an older woman, and asked for a massage (long story, but what should I have asked instead? "How much"?). 50 yuan for an hour, she said, and I didn't haggle. Should I have?

I didn't get to choose a girl, but a pretty one began leading me to a room so I didn't object. She asked if I'd like a bath in a big wooden bucket; I was afraid a gang might be waiting outside (totally my paranoia btw) or some such thing, so I said no.

Later on when she was massaging my leg, I used my feet to play w. her breasts, but she said no b/c I didn't wash them. She offered to give me a handjob and let me touch her for 30 yuan. She didn't seem willing to go lower and I didn't pressure her. She also wasn't willing to offer any more services, though I didn't name a price.

At the end of the visit she was very happy to receive the 30 yuan from me.

Question: Should I have taken the shower? Could I have gotten any more services from her? How should I have approached the front desk in the first place? Thanks a lot.
