Should I stop by a potential employer and introduce myself?

I submitted a resume & cover letter. I live right by the job location and in the job posting it did indicate that they prefer the candidate to live close by.

Absolutely! What will give you the edge is them seeing if they could gel with you and having met you, your resume will stand out....."this is the woman that stopped by."

Definitely go introduce yourself. Not only does this tell the employer that you are interested, but lets them know you can actually find the location, and aren't just sitting around waiting for the phone to ring. As someone who has both been the hiring manager at a major corporation, and someone who has done the recruiting at a staffing company, I always want to see people, so I can tell if they are paying attention, if they are smiling, if they can find the location (surprisingly, a lot of people cant follow simple directions). I do not believe that by merely stating that they want a candidate who lives close by means; you get to drop in like it is a family restaurant,. I would suggest you behave professionally and that is make calls,leave messages for reminders that you have left your resume. Do not behave as if you are out of high school and drop in. Call, ask if the employer has read your resume and go by the answer.
Do follow up calls once every two weeks and troll many many other places of employment in the meanwhile to make it feel more like you ARE NOT WAITING for that one employer.
