Refresher Course/Practise Sessions

I have a question regarding Refresher Courses, and or Practise Sessions.

I qualified my Dip PTin 2002, then moved to another part of the country, but due to bringing my daughter up alone, & living in a village so remote, I haven't had any work in the last 5 yrs.

Now however,I'm looking to get back into the Industry. As I feel I need to refresh/practice my skills prior to working on paid clients, does anyone know what courses are available in or around the Gloucestershire area? Or what about Practise Sessions? If some1 else is also looking to practise their skills, would they consider mutual practice sessions for skills honing ?

If any1 has any information on this, I would be grateful. All the searches I get on google are either for places like London,Birminghan, or Nottingham, etc...

I am on exceptionally low income, so funding courses etc is tight, but I am willing to travel/pay certain fees, if appropriate.

I don't know of any places, but if you are on a low income, it may be worthwhile getting in touch with your local college, as they may have some subsidised places available. Just think of all the free massages! You would be able to recommence at any point in the year when you feel confident enough to do so.

Thanks Gussie, I'll try an see what colleges are around. I've tried Google, but that just brings up colleges in London, Birmingham, etc, miles away from me.

OK, I checked & all the local Colleges seem to run Full Time 1-3 Yrs courses, 1 college took my details & said that they will see if one of their course tutors can help with information, or part-time short classes that they sometimes hold, but they said that they have no idea when they will be able to contact me to let me know of anything.

I did manage to find one organisation that runs courses as well as public health classes, but so far the phone is just ringing with no aswer.

Hiyas Hallos, thanks for the link, I checked it out.

With certain circumstances,only2 colleges were appropriate to my requirements.I had already spoken to 1 of them this morning & they can't help.So the second1, doesn't lookany courses on theirbrochure that fit what I want,so I'll have to give them a ring on monday, to double check.

I did get the details of 1 Local Community Project in this area, but I have been ringing them on n off all day, no1 answers the damn phone. []

What's more, theorganisation who I did my training with,said previously, that if we want to pop in for a Refresher/Top-Up, we are welcome to phone them to arrange that, but again, their nearest centre is at least 60 miles away. [>:]

It looks like for the moment, I'm screwed. I don't think I should have moved to this area, it SUCKS... LOL

Are you sure you need a refresher course?

Thanks Hallos, I really like it that people here at HP are so helpful.

Nah, not wanting to give up, just struggling with the issues, lol.

I don't know if a Refresher Course, Weekend Workshop, or just doing a couple of Practise Sessions with another Massage Therapist is all I need, I have the qualifications necessary, it's just been 5 years since I last did a proper massage session on any1.

I have done some Active Trigger Point work on my mother for stiff/trapped/tight muscles, as well as minor amount of remedial massage on my mom & step-dad, over the last 2 yrs or so.

My logic is that I would personally prefer to get some practise in, prior to working with/on paying clients.

I have found that if you offer free massage to people (not including family) they are loath to pay for treatment once you are ready to start charging, how many of us have found this withpeople who were case studies. Why dont you see if there is anywhere local to you looking for volunteers to massage?

Hi Hemelgirl, I have checked for local areas which have volunteer work, there is one place I was given the contact details for yesterday. I phoned them on an off all day, no1 answered the damn phone, so I'm gonna try again on Monday to get hold of them.

I don't even know any1 around here, who I could use as practise prior to going out & charging people.

I have looked at both the Local District Town Council website, as well as the County Council Website, both have next to naff all for training on their sites. However, I have an appointment already sceduled near the end of the month, with the 'Lone Parent Advisor', for the6-monthly 'Work Focused Interview',so I will have a word with them,see what they have to offer in the area. I'll also have a word with them about 'back-to-work benefits', hell, I need to get a Massage Couch anyway, LOL.

Thanks Fire, I have spoken to 1 of them 2 colleges already, no go, however, I have to phone back the 2nd 1 tomorrow, see what they say, thanks for the links anyway.

I do have a Volunteer Charity, involved in Complementary Therapies, just waiting for them to call back. Another company, I've tried phoning since last week, who still don't answer their freaking phones, gotta see if they can possibly help, when they pick the damn phoneup, lol. []

I spoke to 1 guy on friday, he could not help me at all, but he was able to recommend me to a guy in Glos City, I just gotta wait for that guy to phone me back. At the moment, it's all in the air.

I haven't been able to find any companies in the area, they all seem to be small private practises who aint interested in hiring other people, lol.

Don't ya just love Catch 22 Situations. [>:] I need to get myself some more Personal Trainer Equipment, & a Massage Couch, I can't afford them yet, I need work to be able tobuy them, but I need money to get the equipment to get the work in the first place.

Soon as I can break the circle (Catch 22), I can start, LOL.
