A new article in a czech newspaper about prostitution and the financial crisis:
During almost 20 years, Dubi was the symbol of prostitution in Czech Republic. In the golden era, the city of Dubi had much as 50 night clubs in operation.
Today only four clubs remain and Police is estimating that all night clubs may be closed in the next two years due to the financial crisis.
Last few years the strong crown already hurted sex business in Prague and the boarder areas with Germany and Austria but the financial crisis is now killing them because these night clubs rely mainly on tourists (up to 90% for some of them).
Most of the prostitutes working at the boarder areas (Dubi, Rozvadov...) are moving to Germany or Spain. Most of them are not czech but Bulgrarian or roumanian. Now that they are in EU, they can easily go further West and try their chance somewhere else in the Schengen area.
Last three years neon signs changed and shops, pensions/hotels or appartments replaced former night clubs. The last four clubs are Kiss, Libido, Venezia and Sauna (wich now opens on weekends only).
In the past up to 400 prostitutes worked in Dubi area. Now only 20-30 women... The remaining night clubs only offer 4 girls per night due to the lack of customers.
The business is so bad that bulgarian, ex-yougoslavian and albanian gangs sent their girls to other countries.
The situation is similar in other czech cities where prostitution relies on foreign clients. In Chomutov, where 99% of clients were Germans, from 20 night clubs only 3 clubs remain in operation. For now. Owners are thinking to switch to another business - like herna (gambling bars) - to make money.
