Fireballs, I'll repay you by not mongering my nasty ways at the Zaragoza.

On cleanliness, I have a pretty low threshold, for one night. grime is acceptable, but I lose it with odors, especially foul ones. there should be nothing competing with the sweet scent of a woman.

Well, I always stay at Leyva whenever I go to TJ. First off, the parking is free(well, not exactly because they tack on $5 more on top of regular room fee of $24 if you park your car there). For whatever reason, they charge $2 deposit when you check in and you get the money back when you check out. It's not the most glamorous and flashest motel in TJ, but it's conveniently located next to CC and clean and most of all, closest to the route to the border when I drive. It's very chica friendly as well. I've never had any problem bringing the girls to my room.

Recommending a room is a lot dependent on the type of accommodations the monger will be willing to stay at. Does he mind staying in a 'one star' hotel to be close to the action?

Cascades is best in my opinion if you want to be very close to the action especially if you get a window room....then you can look outside and see all the SGs lining the alley...it's better than a picture in a room. You are allowed to take at least one chica for free to you room, maybe more and the chicas from HK, LC, and Miami all use this hotel. However, the rooms are maybe 1 1/2 stars at best, but it's decent has a bed, TV, and the showers are hot. ( we got other SGs hotels going for about $12 a night, but don't even rate on the star system, or they go the other way into the minus)

If you require a more upscale place then Hacienda de Santiago is the best choice, right across from La Tropa, however mongers who care about dangerous streets might be a little concern here, as there are lots of gang bangers, general lowlifes, and TJ cops around this hotel especially across the street. I consider this street a lot more dangerous that Articulo 123, but than I think the danger level on ART 123 is a joke. I don't think it's really dangerous , but like a said lots of lowlifes walking that part of town.

Leyva, is in a little better area right near Chicago, and a very short walk to AB and other bars, and the rooms are decent, better than Cascades.

If I'm staying with family I like to stay at the Villa De Zaragoza it's close to Revolution, clubs, and better restaurants, but it's a long walk to the zona, or a short cab fare.

To me the hotel Nelson is not worth 45$ + 10$ girl fee.The last time I stayed there was in 2004.{It could have changed} To me there is no differnets between AB,CC,casacdes and nelson on what the room look like .Only nelson overchanger for everything.

I have not. I am pretty sure I have not stayed in Leyva or VDZ either, but have been in their rooms.

I have only stayed in the Cascades overnight. I sprang for the hot tub room. It wasn't very clean and if you are wanting posh surroundings stay somewhere else. The hotel is in a great location for the reason you are going. I had a room on the third floor so noise wasn't much of a problem (I also partied all night so I didn't care about noise anyway). BG's from HK and every SG I wanted came to the hotel without a problem. They do have a chica fee after the second or third in the hot tub rooms (I think you get one more than the standard rooms). IIRC it was about 5-10 USD.
I liked the location and since my spanish is VERY limited so were my choices on where I felt comfortable staying.
Cascades had cable TV but all channels were in spanish except for the 3 porn channels. The shower was tolerable and the hot tub worked great. The tub got me some extras from one of the HK bar girls and was well worth it. I will warn you, there is no heat in the room. The tub really caused a hell of a lot of condensation on the concrete walls in Jan.
Compared to the short time rooms for CC and AB's the room was about the same but without the knock and gratuities for the cleaning staff each trip up.
Staying in the zona was an experience. One can party all night with the locals (BG & SG) catch a quick nap and sample one or two more in the late am before crossing back in the early afternoon when it's safer and less crowded.

Villa De Zaragoza...nice, carpeted floors, good size showers, in Centro on Madero between 7th and 8th street. Cable television, free parking

Hacienda de Santiago: Not mentioned, but might be one you meant to ask for on corner of Coahuila and Revolucion across from La Tropa. Nice rooms with kitchenettes. Closer to action, nice showers, last time there only a few stations available on television with not so good reception. Free parking when you rent a room.

La Tropa Hotel: Probably mean Hotel Zona Norte which is above La Tropa Bar. Basic bed, television, and shower, not too quite and not too clean. Maybe free parking when you rent a room(they have parking off of Revolucion.

Cascadas: Centro location for street girl and chicas from HK, LC, and Miami...maybe other bars as well. Decent but noisy. Believe they charge for chicas after your first one.

Leyva: over by Chicago, same ownership as Hacienda de Santiago, and adequate rooms and they have shitty rooms too I believe. Little quieter than Cascadas. Nice staff, free parking when you rent a room.

I’m contemplating my first overnight stay in the special zone. I’ve made this list from reading previous posts. So I’d like to get the latest.

If you have any knowledge of them from first-hand experiences, especially in terms of chica fees, "joiner fees," cleanliness, security, or noise, please let me know.

I’m also interested in general comments, including negative ones, on staying overnight in one of them as a way of avoiding that obnoxious, premature knock on the door. Does that make sense?

I’m imagining going through three or four chicas (SG, BG’s, and/or escort) over the course of one overnight stay.
