NHL Trade: Buffalo and Calgary?

There have been talks of a trade brewing between Calgary and Buffalo (from multiple sources, none of them being hockeybuzz)

Calgary Receives: Jason Pominville ($5M cap hit), Brad Boyes ($4M), and Shaone Morrisonn ($2.075M) (Shaone's requested a trade)

Buffalo Receives: Jarome Iginla ($7M), Brendan Morrison ($1.25M), and Tim Jackman ($550K) (to minors)

Calgary is currently $1M under the cap and Buffalo is $5M over (-$3M for kotalik to minors) so $2M over

Buffalo will go from $66M (Start) to $54.925M (after subtractions), then finally at $63.175M

Calgary will go from $63M (Start) to $54.2M (after subtractions), then finally at $65.275M (dump morrisonn or another d to minors to even out cap)

What do you think??

I'm trying to find some reason Calgary would screw up their cap and trade their captain and star for a bunch of decent-but-nothing-special players. If they were trying to get younger, they can do better than a trio of 29-year-olds. This is a bad trade for Calgary.

Terrible trade for Calgary... if Iginla will be traded it will be for young up-and-coming players, not old injury-prone slightly above average players with big contracts

I don't like it. Jason Pominville is one of my favorite players and I was starting to like Boyes too. Morrisonn I don't really care about. But I don't think it's a good idea to trade guys in their 20s for two guys in their mid 30s.

Jay Feaster the GM of Calgary said that they were gonna make the playoffs this year and Pominville Boyes and Morrisonn wont help the flames with that where iginla morrison and Jackman will... Maybe at the start of last year it would make sense to trade iggy... but iginla had a 43 goal season.. him and alex tanguay when together even in the past have been lights out a great combo, but at the start of last season they had the wrong center playing with them so they tried Brenden Morrison and those three are a great trio and a solid first line, now Tim Jackman is a grinder a really good one he is defintley one of those guys who played a part in the team winning just not on the scoreboard... Now maybe this would make sense if the flames had no chance of making the playoffs but they do have a chance so if this trade is made then Jay Feaster is an idiot

Sounds like an Eklund rumor to me. This makes no sense for Calgary who needs to get younger and generate some depth. They add salary and middle aged players who are what they are? That has Eklund written all over it (and I didnt bother looking as his garbage is nauseating at best). Calgary may decide to move Iginla while he still has value but you can be sure the return price will be steep. You have a skilled power forward still capable of 40 goal seasons and a huge physical presence on top of leadership skills the price starts with top prospects and picks. They might take back some salary to make a deal to Buffalo work (Pominville, Morrisonn) but you can bet it would also require names like Zack Kassian, Jhonas Enroth or Luke Adam and probably 2 of those 3 guys (and maybe Pysyk as well). Then figure on Calgary asking for a pick or 2. So any deal involving those 2 teams figure on Iginla and a couple other names being swapped for Pominville, Morrisonn, Enroth, Kassian and at least a 1st rounder. Could happen then but I bet there are other teams willing to part with plenty of prospects and picks.....the one you report hearing is almost comical as it makes Calgary worse and adds salary....Buffalo would be all over that deal in a second.

There is no chance Calgary trades away their star captain.He is their best player on the team. If they trade away Iginla, they would get better players and not a 20 goal guy. Iginla is a 40 goal guy.This is just a rumor. It won't happen.
