Newbie in formatting computer.?

I'm a newbie in computers and I'm having problems with formatting my laptop. I had formatted several times due to failures of installing. The first time I format, it didn't ask anything like deleting the previous windows xp profesional and I had forgotten about it, so I proceed to install. I insert the cd and I click the button to install the windows xp. Then, it restart my computer and it started with the installation. At the partition part, I had no idea what is it and I saw 2 partitions, 1 with 55mb and the other 1 with 76262mb. I deleted the 55mb and I can't create partition on the 55mb. And then, i realized that I need to delete the previous windows xp 1st. So, I quit the setup and the computer restarts. Now, it deleted the windows xp which I had no idea why. So, I gladly wait for it to delete it. Then, it restart the computer again. And it freezes in the please wait there. I waited for 1hour and then I restart. Then, the setup starts. The setup starts like normal but I don't know why the partition part did not came out and the whole thing was different from the previous time. However, the setup finished. Then, I saw that all of the folder was not deleted and I don't know why. So, I closed the computer. Can somebody help me with this? I'm a newbie in computer so please don't use computer language. =D

If the disc is an after market disc, then the microscopic number will be on the sleeve, not the tower.

1) Put Windows CD in the tray, then restart your computer.
2) If this is the original disc, Or burned at first use from computer, Then have the numbers from the side of the computer written down, and ready. You won't want to have to move the tower when things are under way. ( You may need an electron microscope to read these numbers, since Bill Gates thinks we all have better vision than Superman.)
3) Restart the computer, and wait for the message "Press any key to boot from CD".
4) Press the spacebar. ( That's the one I use ) You will see a progress bar on the bottom as the computer checks the drive. When that's done:
5) Select the option to delete all partitions. Press "D" to delete, then "L" to confirm.
6) Now there is one unpartitioned space. Press "Enter" to begin. Now it's removing & reinstalling Windows. When it's done, it will restart itself. Do not pres any keys now, or the process will start over.
7) It should now ask for the product key. ( The microscopic number from the side ) Enter it, then hit "Next"
{ If it asks you if you wish to "Register Windows now?" choose "Remind me later" - you have no antivirus right now }
8) Create a name for your account. ( I use "a" because it's at the beginning of the alphabet & easy to spell ) ;-) You can enter additional accounts later.
9) If it meanders to "Network Settings, as it probably will, Choose "Typical".
10) Upon completion, your computer should restart again. Now it will give you that aggravating thing about taking a tour...
10) If you have an anti virus disc, install it upon completion of the install, before going online to register your Windows. update it first also. You want to be armed for bear before you go online!
11) Now your ready to register your Windows.
And your ready to go.
