need a massage bed..confused.com!!

Hi all

hmm is summer here at last?!?!?! Hope so...

Anyway back to the 'help me!' question 'Please'.. I have just started a holistic massage course and need to buy a portable massage table, I have trawled through most websites/ebay but still not sure, 6 legs or not 6 legs, wood or metal..so a bit confused to say the least. I have always found it best to go on recommendations so any help, recommendations would be great!

Depends how much you want to spend.

There are some very light and strong couches available, but they're expensive.

The cheaper you get the more heavy they are and the less strength they have.

I done the same as yourself and I ended up getting mine off ebay it arrived quickly it was cheaper than any I was looking at in Ireland and i've never had a problem good luck shopping

Also just have a look at the adjustable height as a bed which is not adjustable (in order for you to be comfortable) can be bad for your back.

I also find that having a (clip on) face piece is improtant if you want your client to turn around. Client can get very uncomfortable otherwise and this defeits the whole object of the massage!

Rather investigate thoroughly before you buy as £50 might sound like a lot extra but will be cheaper than buying a cheap bed and then having to sell it in order to buy something better in a few months. It is a good investment!

The company's that I have used have been Marshcouch in Hemel Hempstead, and couches that I love to use that are very comfortable and well made are Oakworks and Earthworks - they are very well built, but tend to be quite expensive. It all depends on what your budget is. I still have my Marshcouch from 20 years ago - getting ready either to have it recovered for use as standby - or chuck it - the base is so sturdy could live another 10 years when recovered. If you are going to do a lot of mobile treatments, then weight is probably a deciding factor - if it's going to stay in a therapy room then heavier sturdier built couches are suitable.

Have you tried Sally's Beauty - got mine from Ebay but was bought their originally. Think their couches are around £99. Mine is about £15kg which is manageable although am not mobile!

Hi Alison,

I massaged for a charity recently and they bought a load of these couches for their screening.

It's not the lightest of couches but it was really sturdy and a good all rounder it has a face hole as well as a detatchable and adjustable face ring. It also has an adjustable back which gives it that mutli functional aspect.

And it's only £79.99 inc. free p&p.

The couch on eBay that SueW posted looks nice but looking at the weight I think it's too heavy if you are wanting to be mobile. 18Kg is 39.6 lbs.

I've got an Earthlite Luna which I got from Injury Prevention Massage but they don't sell them anymore. Mine is 26 lbs which isn't too heavy but just carrying up stairs can make me out of breath.

Not the cheapest or most expensive. Master couches are nice and comfortalbe. I believe you can buy them at CostCo shopping outlets. A website that sells them is www.bestmassage.co.uk The master light is 24 lb = 11 Kg

A lot of portable couches are heavy so do look at the weight. You don't want to put your back out.

If you're near Manchester then I have two portable massage tables I haven't got round to selling yet, a metal one and a wooden one. The wooden framed one is a bit awkward as it's an extra-wide one.

Take a look and see what you think. I'd previously bought another one with my sister from a different company - delivery time had been abysmal and the quality wasn't as good as this one. I have back problems so the light weight has been great. Good luck

Responding to the last post, you need to be aware that the width of the physiolite is only 25". This is too narrow for massage unless you are really short.

Thats why the couch is so light, because there is less of it.

Most people need to be looking for a 28" width couch.

hopefully the link will work but this is the one I bought just before Christmas and I absolutly love it, it is a lovely couch (IMO) easy to set up, has a face and arm cradle which fit under the couch when closed, comes with a great carry case which has wheels and goes where it supposed to and has a shoulder strap and grab strap which makes carrying it a lot easier. I have found my life a lot easier as a mobile therapist.

the only thing it doesnt do is have a sit up back but I chose lightness over that and use extra cushions if needed - it was not a function I used very often It is appx 11 kg

something else to mention, forgot before

it is a wide couch so regular couch covers are too tight, I got some flanelette fitted sheets from Dunelms which are actually cheaper and can be tumbled unlike most couch covers I have found

again sorry for the late reply I have been away for a week, and now really beginning to panic about my course!! my own fault really need to buckle down and get on with it nowl....

I have checked out the massage table that you have suggested on ebay and it looks good, i am also opting for lightweight as i dont fancy lugging a heavy one about, it may be ok at first but i am sure it will not do my back any good after a while.

and by the way i am in camborne, cornwall.
