My Mother Introduces Her Boyfriend As Our 'Dad'...We're Uncomfortable?

My siblings and I are all in our late 30's and early 40's. Our father died from cancer when we were teenagers.

Our mother didn't date for many years. About 2.5 years ago, she met her boyfriend, Ed. We all like Ed, he and our mother make a great pair.

What is upsetting us is that our mother introduces Ed as our 'father'. Ed is NOT our dad. My brother is particularly uncomfortable with this situation since he is named after our father.

How can we *nicely* bring this up to our mother and make her stop telling people Ed is our dad?
My mother is NOT married to Ed, nor do they live together. They decided some time ago not to marry because my mother depends on her widow's pension and she will lose that is she remarries.

There is no 'nice' way to say it really... If i were you i would have gone mad at my mother if she did that to me and my brothers... I think you should just tell her your really uncomfortable with him being called your 'dad'. Its not a nice situation to be in, and very unfair on you guys

Your Mum never met Ed 2.5 years ago, she met him a little over 40 years ago. Ed is your real father.

wow, well, nonchalantly just start calling your mother by her first name;; if she gets angry with you, then bring up the discussion..hopefully she'll 'get it'...your mom, unfortunately, is living in a world of her own....

Nicely? Forget nicely. Just come out and tell your mother that "Ed" is her husband
but he is not your dad.
