...introduces her children, it's rude...? So whenever she introduces her children she says 'these are my two daughters and my ADOPTED son' and when she says "adopted" she says it with a LOT of emphasis. Is this rude, and should i talk to her about it, or just leave it be? She is one of my close friends, but whenever she gets insulted or criticized she takes it with a lot of offense.

What are friends for?, a real friend tells you the truth, even if it hurts!, just think about what you're going to say first, you're her friend, you'll know the best way, and yes, it's rude, she's discriminating the poor boy, she should introduce him as her own!.

Do you know for certain that the child himself has not asked her to introduce him that way? My daughter has adopted children and they're very open about it. She doesn't introduce them as adopted, but it comes up in conversation frequently and the kids are usually the ones that bring it up. I think you should just leave it be unless you know for certain that it hurts the child's feelings to be introduced that way, and even then, you should approach it with a sense of humor rather than being critical about it.

Would you prefer she lie and imply that all three children are her natural born children? I have a neighbor with an adopted child who always introduces him in an honest way. I think if the adoptive father was insulted for using the correct term "adopted" he would be entitled to slap the person
