My adult cat had kittens- when is it safe to introduce them to my 4 month old kitten?

She had kittens and I've been keeping her in a room with the door shut so he can't get in, but then Freya (momma cat) can't get out either. When is it safe to leave the door open so both cats can go in or out as they like? Kittens are 2-3 weeks old right now.

Any time, the 4 month old will probably be fascinated and Freya won't see him as a threat. Friend of mine's cat had two litters in quick succession and Mom and kitties from both litters (8 of them plus another unrelated older Tom) were coming and going as they pleased as soon as they could walk or wobble.

hmm....well let him in and see how they react to eachother. The mama cat will probably tell him to go stuff it and smack him around though he's young enough that he'll probably want to play with the kittens.

Domestic cats that have been raised in the house sometimes can be more friendly with kittens. I had a cat to had kittens in my room and my old male cat LOVED them, pissed the mama off cuz he would steal them and put them in his bed then snuggle with them, then she would come over and beat him up and take them back. Then my other cat (female) would just sit and glare, then get up on the top shelf where the kittens couldnt get at her.

All cats react differently, if your boy cat acts jealous of them at all then its best to keep them apart, though if he is nice and just playful then it could be fine. The mama cat might drive him off and smack him around for getting too close, if shes too mean with him you might wanna keep them apart a little longer, really depends on how close they are.

Not until the kittens are older and had their first shot, their immune system is not truly develop yet, except from what they get from their moms, but that is starting to wean. The other kitten might introduce some illness. That said, the older kitten will play way to rough and possible hurt or scratch one of their eyes and then you are looking at more trouble and vet bills. Besides the mom might become aggressive to protect her kittens.

I would not introduce them to the older kitten till they are over 8 weeks old. The older kitten may want to play with the babies and end up hurting them by playing too rough. Also has the older kitten had its vaccination shots yet and been examined by the vet? The kittens at 8 weeks should have their shots also. The momma cat will be fine left in a room with only the kittens you do not want her out wandering in the house as of yet. After they have started eating on their own around 6 weeks old and you know they are eating food and drinking water can you let her out of the room. Making sure she goes back in a couple of hours to check on the kittens and feed them. Kittens will nurse till they leave as long as the momma lets them, it is not up to you when she will stop nursing them.
