Massage Prices?

Hi everyone, just wanted to do a bit of brain-picking.....A friend of mine works in a Business Centre that has a fully equiped treatment room, they are currently looking for someone to come in on a fortnightly basis to give 15 minute back/foot/head massages for the staff, my freind has put my name forward and they have asked for my details, prices etc. Problem is, I have not worked on this kind of basis before so I'm not sure what to charge, I have tried looking around on the web but to no avail...Could anyone please advise me as to what I should charge? I live in London in quite a good area and I work as a mobile therapist, up until now just visiting homes. I am not trained in on-site either, do you think maybe I should do a course or will my itec holistic training be ok?
I've noticed that most therapists that visit offices have had on-site training.

I appreciate that discussing prices is quite a personal matter, so if you could email me with any suggestions I would be very grateful.

a friend of mine does corporate work in London and she charges £15 for 15mins. I live in Herts and charge £10 for 15mins

re being trained, speak to your insurer -
I had a chance to buy a massage chair second hand so did. I rang my insurerers to see if I was covered to use it and was told no, not unless I had done a specific course. I could however sit someone back to front on an ordinary chair and massage the back and be covered by them.

I have since done a seated back massage course which I really enjoyed and find very useful

I'm studying a complementary health degree full-time at the mo' (whilst trying to set up a business), so I'd prefer a short course really..

I did my seated back massage with the SEED institute because it was a one day course - I just wanted to be qualified to use the chair. There are other courses around which are more involved but as I am in the middle of a maternity practitioners diploma with case studies I didnt want to do a course which was more involved

there is the seated massage instute or similar also MSCM in Rickmansworth do a meridian seated chair massage which is a couple of weekends and case studies which I would like to do later down the line

Do you necessarily need to do these massages on a chair? You could do the back and foot massages on your existing couch and use a normal chair to carry out head massage. IMO there is no specialised training or knowledge needed to massage on site - not if you're using your existing skills. Only if you plan to offer seated massage would you need a chair and the necessary qualification.

If you'd like to do a one day seated acupressure massage course I can recommend Helen in Welwyn Garden City who is a tutor with Gateway Workshops. She regularly runs one day courses and I felt well equipped to perform chair massage after the course. The classes are small and the quality of teaching good.

Does the fully equipped treatment room already have a couch in it? Does it have a massage chair? Is it really fully equipped?

For 15 min treatments your probably want them to keep clothes on. Are you comfortable working through clothes on a couch? You might find a seated back massage course gives you enough ideas to work through clothes on a massage chair or couch.

One consideration with the pricing is how much they are supplying in the fully equipped room - they may be supplying hot towels/foot wipes/disposable covers for the couch/whatever so you literally just walk in and start working, or they might just be supplying the couch/chair, and you have to bring in all the rest of it. If you're going from foot massage to head massage you need either easy access to a tap to wash your hands or a lot of hand sanitiser.

Also you need to be really clear if they book people every 15min, so you see 4 people per hour, they're really a bit less than 15min each, OR is it 15min treatment time, which generally beefs it up to 20min and you only see 3 people per hour? I'll use £10 for 15min because the math is more obvious - that could be a maximum possible £40 per hour or it could be max £30 per hour - over 4hr that's a £40 difference

Is it the business paying for the treatments? Or the employees themselves? Nice round numbers are easier for people to hand over the right change, but if it is just one cheque at the end of the day, round numbers for each treatment doesn't matter.
