I did the ITEC course last year - where are you training to?
I really enjoyed it, the advice I wished I had was to do your case studies in plenty of time and dont leave it to the last minute as they need to be full of concise detail and this is hard to do in the 11th hour. Also an added bonus is of doing them early is that you can get your lecturer to look over them before submission.
In terms of revision the best way I found was to write core details on post cards and take them around with you in your handbag as this really does help and maybe look at them a few times a day. Also post-it notes up around the house helps - you can always take them down if you have visitors but by looking at these you will be taking in and retaining more than you think.
You will find a forum on this site with past papers on for the ITEC exams - thse are really great and even if you extract the questions and go away and find the answers.

Have a look on the student and training forum, there are some stickied case studies in there which will give you some information and guidance, posted by Frater.

Familiarise yourself with the ITEC website www.itecworld.co.uk, there is a section there for each course, which is updated regularly, with an outline of course content, syllabus and marking schemes, which are invaluable. When I trained I didn't see value in these, but I wouldn't be without them now, they really are make and break in terms of how high you want to go.

Did my ITEC massage last year and can also say to give yourself plenty of time to do the case studies. You need to spread them out a bit as you won't manage five clients too close together, physically it takes a lot out of you. Also do not underestimate how long it takes for you to write up the case studies and leave yourslef enough space if possible for your tutor to read them through before your exams.

If I had my time over again I would have written a lot less in my case studies. I did research and went into painstaking detail - which wasn't actually necessary. I'm a bit of a perfectionist. Each of my case studies were about 10 A4 pages long. People passed with half that amount or less. The examiner is never going to read them in all in detail.

Ours were "glanced" at by the examiner on the day [we put them into presentation folders and she looked at them after assessing our practical]. If i'd known that all along I would have written a lot less.

Good idea to get your tutor to cast her eye over them at least one of them to make sure you're on the right track.

Meant to say, don't put them into very good folders. Our case studies were taken away, folders an all. Be a waste of money putting them into something decent.

I agree with yogajogga - my case studies got shorter as I went along as you dont need to record stroke by stroke - one of the girls in my class did a bullet point type of case study which also passed

the thing to remember with the case studies is that there is only a pass or fail

write up the treatments as you go along, I left mine til the end and just got in a right state - I actually started smoking again over the flamin things

we only had to provide one complete case study for the examiner to take which I had bound - cost about the same as a folder but I didnt mind not getting it back so much -

hi all,
as someone who reads thru' case studies in both roles as an assessor and an IV, you should be aware that most organisations will require to keep these for upto six months for external verification processess, i always advise student to make copies of any information that they may need before the process is completed, it also helps to present them neatly, i much prefer a well presented folder which is clearly labelled with space for comments and feedback , although that said I always put my own forms into these folders anyway, I also prefer quality as opposed to quantity, i personally find bullet points or abbreviations fine. you have to remember we use clinical experience to assess the direction your treatment takes, any progressions and modifications to treatment as situations arise or improvments in client.

Agree with Gaz, do keep a copy for yourself, sometimes you might find some case studies don't come back. My IHM case studies disappeared but I did have them saved on pc. With regard to case studies I am not sure what your college requires, some require a brief synopsis of the treatment, a history of the client, lifestyle etc and others require you to detail what stroke you started with and what you did next etc. Perhaps your tutor could guide you to what is required.

I agree with Hemelgirl, as soon as my case study left, I wrote up the notes whilst fresh in my mind, so much easier than trying to remember and being overwhelmed by them all. It is hard work but so worth it in the end.

Didn't realise you were supposed to get them back. Ours were collected in and we were told they were kept so we never saw them again.

Ours were taken away then brought back and left in the college but it was up to each person to go in and get them, they were all in boxes and you had to find yours. They are nice to keep especially after all the hard work that goes into them plus some of my case studies are now regular clients so I have all their details on file.

don't think our college would have had any way for us to collect them. We went back to get diplomas and it wasn't mentioned even then. No idea where they went. We were told by our tutor that they would not be returned hence not putting them into expensive files/folders.

the case studies remain the property of the person producing them, they are required as evidence of learning. but should be made available for collection or facilities made to post them back once all moderation and verification procedures are completed, they are a good source of information from your course work, they also allow you to look back and evaluate your performance, and see how you may have developed since the time they were produced.

As a tutor myself, I always tell my students to keep a copy, just in case. Things can go missing in the bigger colleges, unfortunately.

In my experience some examiners like to take away an occasional case study folder as an example of good practice.

On one non-ITEC course I did (as a student) recently, the principal took one case study from each student as evidence for the professional association. If we didn't take the rest away, she would burn them!

Sometimes the tutor (I don't unless it's a copy) may keep some case study folders as an example for the next group of hopefuls (sorry being a cheeky pixie again) to show on the next class.

I am aware this happens, I always ask the student if they would allow me to keep their work for this reason, usually finishing the sentence with " as an exGBample of how case studies should be presented" .

My school provided us with examples of good case studies from previous students to look at during out lunch break. All personal client details were already removed. I found it really helpful.

When I was doing my Sports Injuries and Massage course the school provided examples of good projects/dissertations - again invaluable.

Try to get other students to form question and answer sessions and try to get the college to run a two day revison class. I found these great study aids!
