Mac newbie questions?

I've just picked up an old Powermac G5 (A1001), which is working fine, and I have a couple general questions about using a Mac:

-- How do you maximize an application? None of the buttons I see seems to do it.

-- Are you not supposed to be able to double-click with the touchpad? Or would my Powermac's touchpad be broken that way? It works fine for moving the mouse around.

-- Both drives -- hard drive and DVD drive -- seem quite loud. Is that normal? I have a Dell Inspiron 8200 of similar vintange (2002), and it is much quieter.

-- Is there a book or other resource for quickly acclimating an experienced Windows user to Mac?

Sorry, I meant Powermac G4, not G5.


Forgot to add: It has Tiger 10.4.11.


Whoops -- yes, it's a Powerbook, not a Powermac.
