Guys one thing i want to add is when the girl came back to my hotel room, i told her i will pay her after. She kicked up a bit of a fuss and we ended up agreeing that she would get the money to put in her purse but she would give me her passport for me to put in the room safe. I wanted to be sure she didn't do a runner.

I had already 'locked down' my room before i went out. Locked my suitcase, but all valuables in the room safe, left nothing of value around which could be easily stolen whilst i was taking a piss in the bathroom.

After that she was fine and started to enjoy herself.

I got some pretty good ones for 300 to 500

I will be working on 3 on 1 off roster for the next year and a bit in a city called Happy Rock in the sunshine state, definitely will have time to travel. Got friends from HK that are looking at trips to SE-Asia and Dongguan,

Shanghai is a definite repeat as well since this time really got FUBARed by relatives and pike outs. Speaking to a taxi driver there, he says the Expo has affected the action quite a bit, he thinks things will return to normal after the Expo.

Nice first report and welcome to Shanghai! if you want to go to an upmarket bar that's near to Bar Rouge then try Glamour Bar, that always has plenty of FL's there. By the way, 1100 for 3 hours is a good rate - as long as you're talking RMB not Aussie dollars!

Hey Bartman69, which part of Oz you from? I am from the GC. I had an interesting Shanghai trip myself 2 weeks ago. Next time we should plan a trip with several like minded individuals together. Was originally planned a trip of absolute debauchery but it fell apart: had to do the Expo and sight seeing during the day time with "relatives" and "family" and my wingman piked out on me in Oz.

Anyway one night after suffering allergic reaction to river prawns during the day time and under the affect of antihistamine I went to a place called Judy's on Tong Ren Road. Had dinner and a few drinks there and watching the world cup, was approached by a mamasan of mid 20s from Chongqing offering Thai/Viet/Phil girls for 1000 to 1500RMB for overnight, indicating to a few WG across the bar. I asked her whether she was available (she was a 7-8 herself) as I was more into the flavors closer to home. She politely declined but instead suggested for a fee of RMB300 she can be my Shanghai escort for the night, take me to a few different places etc. I thought its not too bad an idea and accepted.

So we left the first joint and walked to the next one, Malones but it was pretty dead so we didnt stay long. Next was Manhattan, it was crazy: Id say at least 500 inside half westerners half WGs from Thai/Viet/Phil...the place was going off. We were probably the only 10 or 20 occidentals in the joint not counting the staff and she was probably the only female...lolz. So went to get the drinks and less than 5-10min later I am walking back to the table I left her and there was at least 2-3 guys chatting her up lol...she was actually happy to see me back, lol.

So I asked her where to next and she suggested a place called 88, its a chain type nightclub catering to the middle tier income crowd, ie. the place where typical Shanghai office workers and long term expat on a budget and backpackers go. I have to say if you are not looking for a certainty and was simply looking for a fun night this is the place: its packed to the rafters with a good mix of locals and tourists. I actually met a few people there from Shanghai and is now friends with them.

Now what happened with the hot Chinese mamasan and the rest of the night? Well some point around 3-4am I got totally wasted, lost my table and friends I made, lost my glasses, got into a taxi and somehow ended back at my hotel intact. Next morning I checked my wallet, still had my Visa card, my bank card and 2000RMB left out of a 3500RMB at the start of the night. The taxi driver even put the change in my shirt pocket. I didnt get to see whether I could have gotten the Chongqing girl back but man it was a good night and even though I was wasted I didnt get robbed. The only thing Id lost was a pair of glasses and a good chunk of my short term memory for the next 12 hours lolz.

So if you still in Shanghai check out Judy's its on TongRen road, something tells me you probably would run into the Chongqing mamasan there.

I also did go to Bar Rouge but didnt stay long enough to talk to the WGs I spotted there. Thanks for the price info though, will try it out next time.

Now about a few things you mentioned, namely taxis: in China lots of taxi drivers are not locals, even if they have lived in the city for a few years they are migrant workers...you need to tell them the address and how to get there most of the time. GPS is none existent, and most of the GPS have outdated maps.

For hotels and flights, book through www.ctrip.com I have been a member for 3 plus years, 5/5 star for service and quality. All of their agent speak fluent english on the phone.

Hi guys, here's my field report from last night, first time in Shanghai ever. Great great city, but boy is it hot ! I'm from Australia and still found it very hot.

It's always interesting to read info and tips from forums and see how they compare with the actual reality. Thanks to the many posters who helped me have a really fun evening.

So i am staying at the JC Mandarin, i actually didn't book, i rocked up in Shanghai and just found a hotel near the action. I was close to staying at the Portman Ritz Carlton, but it was just a touch out of my price range.

I started the evening at 9.30 checking out the KTV at the JC Mandarin. Very stylish place but there were 5 girls and no customers. I felt very uncomfortable and left shortly afterwards. Girls were decent looking enough but i wanted to check out the places i intended to check out. Had read enough warnings about the KTVs so was very wary.

Got a taxi to the Big bamboo, played some pool with some people at the bar and had a few drinks. It's a decent sports bar full of expats but to tell you the truth nothing special. However i will say, unlike Western bars, there is no problem getting drinks as there are many girls walking around willing to take your drink orders.

Then went to Manhattans. On the short walk to Manhattans was approached by a girl on the street. She was what i would call a lower level girl, not ugly, just lacked polish. I told her no thanks. Manhattans is quite nice inside, much much smaller than i had pictured. There were ladies there and quite a few guys. Quite a few older guys. It is just so obvious what everyone is there for. Stayed for a little while but didn't see any girls i really fancied. Popped my head into Excalibur too, a few girls there, nothing amazing.

Then i got a taxi and went to Bar Rouge. Now i had carefully printed the names and address of every place i wanted to check out in English and Mandarin. Didn't help ! my taxi driver still couldn't find Bar Rouge, he got me close and i had to ask my way to the place. I've found that several times in China. You can have an address nicely printed out in Mandarin but many taxi drivers lack a lot of location knowledge and they are very low tech taxis, no GPS or anything like that.

Anyway i got close to where i was told Bar Rouge was and saw some nice sorts go into a building so i followed them in. The building looked closed but you have to go round a corner to the lift and then Bar Rouge is on the 7th floor. There is no big flashing Bar Rouge sign outside the building (that i saw), it is quite a discrete club and entrance. Once you get out of the lift and go up the stairs into the club, then everything changes. It really is quite an amazing club. Undercover and open air section, the open air section looks right over the city and river, truly spectacular. Decor in the club is A1 and the house music was pretty good. Drinks not cheap but you expect that. Plenty of places to sit down or stand if you prefer. Now Bar Rouge has a proper aura for a nightclub unlike Manhattan so it's a bit like Vegas and Casino girls, you have to work to spot the working girls as there are many regular girls out with their friends. Some working girls are quite easy to spot, others a bit harder. They are all glamourous. It is really the top end of the market. Anyway i spent a few hours drinking, chatting with locals and having fun trying to spot the girls. I had read about high end Russians being at Bar Rouge and im sure there were some there but i had trouble spotting them. I got talking to these 3 glamour blondes who were from somewhere in Europe. They weren't working girls, had fun talking to them and if i was willing to put more effort in, i may have been able to work a freebie but i that wasn't what i was looking for. I wanted a certainty. Over the course of the night had quite a few asian (mix of chinese, vietnamese etc) girls talk to me and subtley letting me know their availability and i did end up taking one home, 1100 for 3 hours. Not a bargain i know, but it suited me. I also had these two hot causasian girls smile at me a lot and i thought they may be working russians but i didn't have the bottle to approach them after my mix up with the other group of white girls before.

There are a few older guys there and the girls definitely gravitate towards the younger guys (of which i just about qualify). When they are talking to 40-50 year old guys, it is pretty obvious what is going on and they don't like that as much. You need to dress well for this place, that also helps get the girls to approach you.

Regardless of whether you want to punt or not, Bar Rouge IMHO is a must see nightclub. It really does have the wow factor and i have been clubbing all round the world including London, New York and Las Vegas.
